Lorem Ipsum About Us

The Open Public Forum (OPF) Museums & Galleries showcase its collection in privately and publically owned spaces, such as hotels, storefronts, restaurants, sidewalks, and in open lots, in the Greater Edmonton area. This collection is not delimited by a specific time frame, but instead seeks to exhibit a wide range of art and artefacts related to our shared human history. Our staff work with local businesses and government officials to integrate displays in public locations. These displays include temporary installation pieces, plinths with shatterproof class tops housing artefacts, and visual art on inside and outdoor building walls. This innovative, daring museum format resulted from a desire to make art and museum collections accessible to the public in a very real way. Just by walking along Whyte Avenue, or standing outside a pub on Jasper, people are exposed to unique artefacts. This means that people have an alternative to visiting a single museum space; Instead, art and artefacts are all around them. Although this is a challenging endeavour, it is hoped that this open format will inspire more museum professionals to think about creative ways to engage the public. OPF stores the 1,500+ permanent items in its collection in a climate-controlled warehouse in the Old Strathcona industrial district. This warehouse is open 4 days a week to the public, as well as by private appointment. We are a not-for-profit organization that evolved from our curator, Tom Nelsons, tiny seed of a dream in 2007. From a small staff of three, we have grown to 9 full time employees, 3 contract staff, and an artist-in-residence position.

Vision
We envision a city where art can be around any corner, with you as you wait for your bus in the morning, or as you chat with a friend over a late-night snack. We think daily living should be infused with arts and culture, and all the conversations that go with it!
Prince Chairs, Louise Campbell (2002).

Mission
The OPF Museums & Galleries will engage the public through accessible, innovative, and daring exhibitions of art and artefacts that attempt to expose the human condition.

The Destroyed Room, Jeff Wall (1978).
