In November of 2012, Community Lutheran Partners held a synod-wide food collection. As a result, over $9000 was awarded to pantries in the form of financial grants and thousands of pounds of food were given to pantries in the affected communities. The synod experienced 5 major disasters in 2012 and pantry resources in many communities were nearly depleted. Thank you for supporting Community Lutheran Partners efforts to replenish the pantries.
A thank you: You have injected new life into our food pantry with your generous $500 grant. I grope for the words to adequately express our thanks and appreciation. With it, we will continue to feed so many here who are hungry. May God overwhelm all of you with His blessings. To Him be the glory! Pat Hudson

Thank You
In December of 2012, Community Lutheran Partners was saddened to hear of the death of friend and supporter, Mike Bauzenberger. Mike was the husband of Pastor Gail who served at Christ Lutheran Church in Wheeling WV. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pastor Gail. CLP would like to thank Jill Charley, Paula McDonald and Debbie Donahue, members of Christ Lutheran, for their donation to the STUFF closet located in their church in memory of Mike. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, not things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38 -39 Community Lutheran Partners is very grateful for the quilt donation made by members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Weirton, WV. Their generous donation allows us to include a twin-sized quilt with every STUFF basket that is handed out in Wheeling.

CLP Executive Director, Sherri Schafer, was honored to be guest speaker at the Women of the ELCA Spring Cluster Events in the Ohio-Kanawha Valley and Potomac Conferences. The ministry taking place around the synod through the Women of the ELCA groups is inspiring. CLP would like to thank the Ohio-Kanawha Valley cluster for their donation of over 20 One+Plus Kits and the Potomac cluster for their generous financial donation. Your support makes our ministry possible. Together, we are bringing hope to the heart of Appalachia.

How You Can Help

When disasters strike, often times our first impulse is to ask, How can I help?. 1. If the disaster is within our synod (WVW MD) we ask that you make a donation to Community Lutheran Partners by going to our website www.clp-online.org, clicking on the PayPal Donate button. If you do not have a PayPal account, you may mail your donation to CLP, PO Box 3054, Wheeling, WV, 26003. 2. When the disaster is outside our synod, CLP encourages all financial donations be sent to ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response. ELCA LDR gives 100% of all donations to the relief effort. Donations may be made at www.elca.org/ldr; by check at LDR, 39330 Treasury Center, Chicago, IL 60694; or by credit card @ 1-800688-3522.

Looking to the Future

At the 2013 CLP Board Retreat which will be held in September, we will assessing our ministries and their effectiveness. Community Lutheran Partners vision is to be an agency which helps congregations develop outreach ministries through which you participate in Gods mission in the synod. Board members and conference coordinators will be contacting your congregation soon to schedule a time to ask the following questions: Identity: What are your perceptions of Community Lutheran Partners and our role in carrying out Gods mission in the synod? Disaster Preparedness and Response training: In the event of a disaster, how can Community Lutheran Partners help you strengthen your congregations response to your community? Health and Well-Being Support: What are the issues concerning health and well-being in your congregation and how can Community Lutheran Partners help you respond to those issues? Social Justice Programs (Just Neighbors and Understanding Generational Poverty): How can Community Lutheran Partners help you develop ministries through which you can love and serve your neighbors who face daily social and economic challenges? We value your opinion: Are there other social justice or community issues that you would like to learn more about or do you know of issues that you would like to bring to the attention of CLP? Is there more that CLP could to better meet the needs of the people of the WV-W MD Synod?

CLP Ministry Highlight

Community Lutheran Partners would like to highlight the Holiday Box ministry of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Aurora, WV. Four times a year on Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas the congregation accepts donations of food and occasionally toys for the boxes. The congregation assembles around 20 boxes each time and they are distributed to residents who are in need in the Aurora community. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. Matthew 25:35

COMMUNITY LUTHERAN PARTNERS: BRINGING HOPE TO THE HEART OF APPALACHIA

So...who or what in the world is Community Lutheran Partners? Community Lutheran Partners or CLP is the social ministry agency in the WV-W MD Synod. The purpose of this agency is to work with congregations to develop or strengthen ministries in the areas of Disaster Preparedness and Response and Social Justice

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE

CLPs programming is designed to help individuals, families, and congregations prepare should a natural disaster strike their community. CLPs workshop focuss on Individual/Family preparedness, Congregational preparedness and Community preparedness.

One+Plus Kits
When disasters such as flooding strikes a community, relief efforts arrive through many agencies. CLP has found a way to effectively contribute to these efforts. One+Plus kits are designed to fill the gaps in existing disaster relief efforts.

S.T.U.F.F.Sheets, Towels, Utensils For Families

Disasters dont always come in the form of flooding or wind storms. Community Lutheran Partners S.T.U.F.F. provides household necessities to families whose lives are disrupted by disaster, displacement or other kinds of distress. Whether it is someone transitioning out of a homeless shelter or domestic violence shelter, a young adult aging out of the foster care system or a person who finds themselves in need of the basics to set up a new home, CLP will provide them with a STUFF kit..

SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRIESCARING FOR THE LEAST OF THESE
Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40 Community Lutheran Partners works with congregations to develop or strengthen existing outreach ministries. Food pantries and feeding ministries are seeing unprecedented numbers. CLP has two programs which help us build ministries to better serve the least of these. Just Neighbors is an interactive educational program whose mission is to raise awareness of poverty as the first step in finding a community-based action. Understanding the Framework of Generational Poverty is a workshop which uses the work of Dr. Ruby Payne. This program helps people recognize the framework in place which traps families in cycles of generational poverty. By recognizing the systems, congregations can begin to develop ministries which help to break the cycle.
