The Best Category of Persons by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

There are three categories of people: uttama, madhyama and niica. The niica category of people are those who do not undertake any work. They think that they are ordinary people and cannot do any work. They are always scared of the probable obstacles they might encounter in their work. They do not undertake any work. The madhyama category of people are those who undertake some work but throw up their hands when any problem crops up. They presume that any obstacle that comes in their way is a Himalayan obstacle, and hence they give up their work. They think they will not be able to tackle the problems they face. They are not confident of their abilities. The uttama category of people are those who take up a task and are determined to fulfil it. They go on struggling against all odds till they achieve their goal. No problem can defy solution. No difficulty can be greater than their capacity to solve it. They go on fighting against all obstacles. They can face any challenge and meet any predicament. They are determined to achieve their objective, come what may. I want you to be persons of the uttama category. You must always think of the goal. Always look to your ideal. By spiritual ideation you can get inspiration to adhere to your principles. 23 August 1978 evening, Patna Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

Summer Spiritual Conference in New York Sector

Spirituality in a New Era is the theme for Summer Spiritual Conference organized by Ananda Marga, New York Sector. Its going to be held in Ananda Kanan, a beautiful Retreat Center located in Ozarks. In the weeklong family type event, participants will enjoy pristine surroundings, inspiring spiritual activities, cultural events, and sentient food. Activities will include chanting, meditation and classes on spiritual and social topics.

Since its inception in the year 1982, Ananda Kanan has seen generations of spiritual seekers (Margii) deepen their spiritual practices and develop an understanding about their role in society. Well-known people such as poet Robert Bly and economist Dr. Ravi Batra have shared their knowledge during events in Ananda Kanan. Spirituality, as a practice, has now crossed the threshold into a new era. Yoga and meditation are fast emerging as a way of harmonious life. Meanwhile, human society is fast loosing the sense of Aparigraha. People are starving in the streets of the big cities while others watch. Some dont know what to do with their abundance. Aparigraha means to live with the minimum necessities of life. It is a basic fundamental principle of morality. Spirituality in a new era conforms to this principle. Ananda Kanan is a venue to get together and adopt such principles in life. Dada Jiivapremananda is the In-charge of Ananda Kanan. He starts his day at 5.00 am with leading a collective meditation for residents and ends it by leading another one at 6.00 pm. He is skimpy eater, but a tough worker. His daily routine includes watering plants and teaching yoga classes. He is quite adept in dealing with seasonal

plants and their behavior. Lovely animals, that remain sheltered in Ananda Kanan, are cared well by Dada. As he walks around doing his daily chores, his shiny smile is quite visible, as if he is in bliss. He is eager to host the participants of Annual Summer Spiritual Conference this year. Spirituality in a New Era is actually a return to the traditional values which honor the self-realization and selfless service, and dedication to creating a harmonious society, free from distinctions. Ananda Marga, since its inception in 1955 in India, is continuing to lead others to the path of righteousness. Summer Spiritual Conference at Ananda Kanan, organized by Ananda Marga New York Sector, is a must come for all.

Please see the brochure on crimsondawn.info for program and details. Contact Dada Jiivapremananda at 417-469-4713 for announcing your coming.

Granbury, Texas Tornado Relief Initial Survey Report & Second Visit
Last Saturday I went for the first time to Granbury. After a 2-hour drive, I reached the town of about 6 thousand by a beautiful lake. I located the Rancho Brazos subdivision, the area hardest-hit by the deadly tornado, classified as an EF-4 of a maximum EF-5 on the Fujita Scale.16 tornadoes hit the North Texas area, and this one had winds of 166-200 mph. I intended to enter the neighborhood to make a survey of the damage, talk to the residents, and see what help to give them, but as I drove up and showed my AMURT badge, the Hood County sheriff s deputies said they were not allowing anyone in yet, except the residents and professional search-and-rescue personnel. They directed me to go to 2 churches where I could register myself and my organization, obtain a permit and return another day when volunteers like myself would be permitted in. I first found the Church of Christ and talked to the pastor there, who was very friendly and helpful, not showing any outward surprise at my strange orange uniform! He told me that he thought the relief efforts would go on for a long time, months or even a year due to the heavy damage. I asked what he thought the victims need most, and he replied, Food, clothes, shelter, baby items, and of course, money to get their disrupted lives back to normal again. Then he directed me to the First United Church where I could find the volunteers taking care of registration. So I found that church and in the parking lot, saw tables set up and trailers where donated items were stored. Meeting the very friendly and welcoming volunteers of CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), it was a joy to see their tired yet smiling and inspired faces. They took my details down, and Pam Scheuler, the in-charge there recounted to me some stories of that fateful Wednesday night when the tornado touched down, and all power and cell phone reception in that area was lost, and how many Granbury residents did their best to help the victims of the disaster. She was inspired that the ones most affected tried to help not just themselves, but selflessly aided their neighbors as well. Pam said that Texas and southern culture is like that.

I explained about AMURT and our relief work around the world, and we took some photos together. It was getting dark so I said I would be back Monday and try to bring some volunteers with me to help in whatever way we can, and to make a better survey when we can go into the devastated area.

AMURT - Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team

(By the way, an interesting thing happened on the way there and back from our office/Jagrti/Meditation Center in Richardson our 310K-mile trusty old Toyota started out with properly-inflated tires, but upon reaching home, the right rear tire was 50 per cent deflated, and some hours later, down to 90% deflated. I had heard a noise in that area of the car on the way there, and again on the return trip, but it seemed to be running fine and normal, so I thought it had run over something on the highway. Actually, it was running at high speed on crowded highways with a leaky tire, so it was a small miracle that nothing untoward happened. I sat down and recalled BABA, our Guru (Spiritual Master)s advice that human life is very precious and short, none of us knows what will happen next, so we should utilize this human frame to do good for others maximally, and sincerely and regularly do our spiritual practices.) (In a few hours, I will return there.) Ac. Advayananda Avt. SFS-PU NY

The Heart Warming Poetry of Dada Muktatmananda The floating people, Do not come from some oriental tale, do not glide up in the air; Heavy the body they carry through the bleak light, and ammoniac nights they learn not to be scary; They have lived on the brink, have dodged disaster edges have long heard false pledges long relied on dope as desperate stabilizers and pain killers, a chemical reprieve from hell healers Yet, on a true note, theirs is the greatest hope of all. And as many, as you like to multiply for joys sheer flight filling the micro and macro cosmic comb of life, as the song of the universe; And in reverse, travelled sound boats will come to silent harbour, luxuriant, motley colours spent will in transparency take cover; The much lived, awaken will skip and dodge nature, like baby turtles, in to a sea run at last.

I open myself to poetry only at night late, and that is my limitation to face, for tomorrow at the crack of dawn I must be awake to serve those who at the front garden, linger and await.

R.A.W.A. - Renaissance of Artist and Writers Association The silk of my mind glows from moon rays, infinite unexplored traveling trails and stars spin in cosmic motion; Something of dimensions, yet undiscovered within this rhythms and pulsations long for the absolute. The green quietly and patiently awaits for undetermined time while animals, crawl, slither, swim, and fly for the same. And yet, how amazing when I realize all of that, it is just you thinking to yourself. The waves of my breath Morning silvery light, before the arrival face, of the sun, the entrance of a chorus makes a splash, while I wash, my eyes with these wonder! With my soul easy, and heart glad, I let myself in a sea; Wading deeply, in the thought of you! The constant humming in to the silence blend; your name surface and submerge in the waves of my breath

AMURT - Refugee Relief in Lebanon

In Boqaata, Lebanon, AMURT coordinator Anas explains assembly of a stove as a refugee receives a winter kit for his family consisting of a stove, blankets, a carpet and clothes. at Chouf, Lebanon.
The Syrian crisis has led to a large number of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and refugees. In February 2013 this figure stood at around 2 million IDPs in Syria and 1 million refugees in neighboring countries. Most of these people depend on humanitarian assistance, or sharing host families dwindling resources to meet basic needs. This figure is growing daily and has led to a doubling of people in need in the last couple of months. AMURT works with local and international partners in the Chouf mountain villages in Lebanon to provide Syrian refugees food, winter items and providing assistance with medical and educational needs.

Many of the refugees have harrowing tales to tell. Mohammed, a grandfather, took shelter with relatives in western Syria, but had trouble even getting bread as the streets were too dangerous to enter. He used his savings to pay an extortionate fee to a driver to take him across the border. It was like escaping from jail, Mohammed said. The driver took a lot of money because we could die in the street. We have organized much-needed medical supplies and winter items for Mohammed and his family. AMURT is appealing for funds to meet the needs of the increasing numbers of refugees seeking our assistance.

Spiritual Cooking Recipes by Bhaeravii Moroccan Carrot Salad

1 pound carrots 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon ground paprika (sweet is traditional, smoked is edgy but quite nice) Generous pinch of cayenne pepper or, if you have it, Aleppo pepper 2 teaspoons agave nectar or honey Juice of 1 or 2 lemons 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/2 bunch fresh flat leaf parsley, coarsely chopped Coarsely shred the carrots in a food processor or cut into 1/4 matchsticks, your call. Dump into a good-size bowl and set aside. In a small skillet, heat the oil, cumin, paprika, and cayenne over low heat, stirring now and again until spices darken and the whole thing turns fragrant, 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool. Pour the spiced oil over the carrots. Add the agave nectar, lemon juice, and sea salt and stir until the carrots are evenly coated. (The carrot salad can be stored in a airtight container in the refrigerator for a day.) Just before serving, gently stir in the parsley. Enjoy chilled. Makes 6 servings

Babas Quote

We cannot neglect the spiritual world. This was our fault -- that we neglected the spiritual faculties of human life, the cardinal spiritual points of life. Now, if we want the development of this beautiful universe, we should try to accelerate the speed of spiritual progress more and more. If this progress, this speed, this acceleration, becomes tremendous, ten not only in the physical or psychic or spiritual world of human beings, but in the entire living world -- and not only the entire living world, but also both animate and inanimate worlds -- there will be tremendous progress, and this is what we want. Now humanity is anxiously waiting for that crimson dawn in the eastern horizon. Shri Shri Anandamurti ji
