LoverMichelle: Author Katie Ashley joins us tonight ~ chat begins in 20 minutes and will end
PROMPTLY at 10:30 PM EST as Katie has another commitment immediately following our
chat!
LoverMichelle: Yea, you made it just in time! Did you get your Coke Zero?
Yesi: Hello!!! :)
Maria D: Hi!! :)
Denise: Hi!
LoverKaren: Hola
LoverMichelle: We'll have people trickle in at different times. But this is an open forum. And
I'm just here to moderate and keep it semi-clean! Feel free to ask Katie any questions you want
to ask her. However, we simply ask that you keep this forum spoiler free.
LoverMichelle: Feel free to discuss any of her books ~ not just Music of the Heart!
Katie Ashley: lol, yes, I got my Coke Zero...never again will I try to go out "real quick'
lalamrcds: Hi Katie! I was wondering what you are working on right now and when will it be
out?
Kristina: Hi Katie...will we hear more from Emma & Aidan?...deleted scene you didn't put in
the book maybe?
Katie Ashley: Hi Lala, I'm currently working on revisions for Don't Hate the Player--a book I
wrote four years ago this summer
Katie Ashley: it was the first book that landed me an agent, and I almost sold to Penguin. It was
inspired by the death of my first student...and the loss of two friends from when I was in HS
Yesi: Spoiler free means I can't ask about Heather in the Prop Michelle! X-(
Katie Ashley: Hi Kristina! yes, we'll hear more from Aidan and Emma. Pesh's story, The Pairing,
which will be out in late summer/early fall, has him dating Aidan's niece Megan. We'll see Aidan
and Em's second child born in that book as well as the whole Fitzgerald family
Katie Ashley: you could call her the bitch, tramp, ho?
Yesi: Haha!!!
Katie Ashley: and I did the Easter story, Kristina...I don't know if you saw it. Aidan in a bunny
suit
Katie Ashley: lo
Katie Ashley: those characters mean so much to me; I doubt I'll ever be able to let them go
Katie Ashley: lol, I think people would be happy if I did every major holiday story...Memorial
Day cookout at the Fitzgerald's, lol. Fireworks at the Fourth of July!! IT means so much that the
ones I loved are so appreciated
LoverMichelle: We'll have people trickle in at different times. But this is an open forum. And

Maria D: <3
Yesi: yes!
Kristina: lol....yes we would love all the major holidays w/ the Fitzgeralds!!
Yesi: Absolutely!
Katie Ashley: *waves to everyone joining* So glad to have you guys here!
Yesi: Katie of all the hotties you have written about...which one is your favorite?
Katie Ashley: it's hard not to play favorites with characters, but I do love Aidan
Yesi: :D
Katie Ashley: I love Jake in his own way....Will from Nets and Lies is the ultimate dreamboat,
kind, caring, compassionate...nick is the diamond in the rough....Aidan is....well, he's just damn
swoonworthy!!
Kristina: lol
Maria D: gotta love a man who can dance, speak Spanish and is in a rock band!!
Maria D: :)
Katie Ashley: With his last name, I paid homage to two of my former students---brothers,
Douglas and Devin Resendiz. I taught Devin twice, and then Douglas is in the Marines now, I
went to his wedding, and he teases me about modeling
Katie Ashley: so I told him the best he would get is to be a character's name
Katie Ashley: ol
Yesi: Katie how did you come up with the idea for The Proposition?
Katie Ashley: The Proposition is a lot of my own personal story and struggle....I've lost my
parents like Em, I want a child, etc. So after my former agent
Katie Ashley: told me to write what I knew, I scoffed. I wrote to escape, not hone in on my sad
parts, lol
Katie Ashley: but then Kelli Maine and Michelle Valentine and I challenged each other to write a
sex scene after 50 Shades exploded---we were all in YA
Katie Ashley: so the first thing I ever wrote of the Proposition was the office baby making scene
Yesi: Well it is a phenomenal story. Thank you for giving us Aidan and Emma! <a3
Katie Ashley: it still blows me away that people fell in love with it so much
Katie Ashley: I just sold in Indonesia....my GA characters, my manwhore, etc, lol in Indonesia
Katie Ashley: thank you!! That makes Brazil, Hungary, Turkey, and Indonesia
Katie Ashley: my bff from Brazil was very excited for the Brazilian one, lol
Katie Ashley: I'm still just in shock...after most of 2012, I never imagined I could be blessed like
this
Katie Ashley: It's been a long struggle in the trenches for writing, so to have this success...it
gives me hope that whoever "Mr. Ashley" is will be phenomenal!!! LOL JK
Katie Ashley: being a romance writer verses teaching is going to make dating interesting
LoverMichelle: I have to say, if y'all get a chance, be sure and purchase the audio version of The
Proposition and The Proposal. Never have I blushed so much in my life! :)
Katie Ashley: I found out it should be on iTunes soon. Its official release was the 8th
Katie Ashley: Tantor, the audio people, bought Proposition, Proposal, and Music. I can't wait to
hear both voices/narration with Music
Yesi: Yay!
Katie Ashley: let's just say the actress really gets in to the sex scenes
Yesi: Lol
Nancy: lol
Katie Ashley: it's so weird hearing your words coming out of someone else!! Especially the sex
stuff. You really go, "OMG, I wrote that?!!!"
Kristina: lol
LoverMichelle: http://www.tantorlibrary.com/BookDetail....
Yesi: That Aidan sure did have some serious moves! :">
LoverMichelle: Over on the right hand side, you can listen to a sample! :)
Katie Ashley: it's funny because someone suggested I make Pesh into S&M...I'm like no, no, he's
all about the seduction scene and making love. I can't imagine the good doctor have whips and
chains
Yesi: Noooooooo!!!
Katie Ashley: Well, the book is about how she hasn't had sex in 18months since Mason arrived
and she's ready to get that over with....she and Pesh are Noah's godparents and then she ends up
doing her clinicals under him at the hospital. She'd like to do more under him, but he's all about
making her fall in love. SO it's kinda a fight to the finish to see who will cave first
Yesi: So I assume Aidan is going to be ok with Pesh putting the moves on Megan? Or no?
Katie Ashley: haha, yes, he wants to make sure Pesh has moved on from Emma, lol. And he
comes to realize that neither Pesh nor Emma were really in love....it was more about being
confused about their feelings
Yesi: Good!!!!
Katie Ashley: hey forgive Mr. Manwhore ASAP because he's being sweet
Christine: Hi girls!!!
Kristina: lol Katie - oh I was mad at Aidan but he had already stolen my heart!! lol
Katie Ashley: I can see why peeps hated him in that book, but hopefully they'll grow to love him
in The Pairing
LoverMichelle: Hi Christine.
Yesi: Hi Christine!
Maria D: hi Christine!
Christine: Hi Yesi!!
Katie Ashley: people really wanted him to die...it was funny and scary
Christine: I felt like he was taking advantage of her b/c she was pregnant. Yes he did good at the
end but still don't like him
Yesi: Lol
Katie Ashley: oh man, I never wanted him to come off as taking advantage of her...he was just so
confused himself about trying to get back in the dating game
Katie Ashley: and grief will totally screw with your head....been there, done that, lol
Katie Ashley: well, then I have my work cut out for me, Christine, so you will become TEAM
PESH 4-EVAH
Katie Ashley: ol
Katie Ashley: jk
Kristina: Katie - what was your favorite scene to write in Music of the Heart?
Yesi: I don't think he was taking advantage of her but he did use it to his benefit with the whole
ultrasound thing and home visit. Not cool in Aidan's house. Just sayin' :)
Katie Ashley: Kristina...hmm, that's another good one. the hardest scene was Jake's mother
dying. I rarely cry in my own books...but that one...damn
Yesi: Haha
Katie Ashley: I loved Jake and Abby's duet and their first meeting
Katie Ashley: when Michelle was reading she said they were like the 7 Dwarfs when Abby was
passed out
Kristina: omg! Jake's mother dying KILLED me!!! I was hysterical crying...
Yesi: :(
Kristina: LOL omg - you are so right about the guys...they didn't know what to do w/ Abby!
HAHA
Christine: I thought it was so sweet when Jake had the techs give him a live feed of her
performance
Kristina: @Christine - yes....that was the sweet side of Jake we all fell in love with!
Katie Ashley: at first I debated having Jake fly in for the show and do a "I'm right behind you.."
Katie Ashley: haha, thanks Denise. Yeah, I felt that would be better since she had just left
LoverMichelle: Who or what was the inspiration behind Abby's character and have you received
much criticism about her losing her virginity to someone like Jake when she had held on to it for
so long?
Katie Ashley: There's a lot of me in Abby or vice versa...I mean, my parents weren't missionaries
but I was someone who believed in waiting til in love and all. Yes, I've gotten shizz for the oral
sex scene, lol. I worried a lot that they were doing it too son
Katie Ashley: YES, love the karaoke
Katie Ashley: the best review I saw of late was an atheist who defended the religious aspects in
the book. Because I've gotten flack for that
Katie Ashley: but who I am bleeds into my writing a lot....so it's hard to totally turn that side of
me off. However, it was necessary in this story to portray who Abby was...also as FORGIVING
as she was, lol
Katie Ashley: yep, a review on amazon gave me a two and said it should have been flagged for
God
Katie Ashley: Yeah, I was impressed that the atheist was on my side that it needed to be
portrayed like that
Yesi: What?!?!?
Kristina: Abby was a little too fast to forgive Jake but it also showed who she was and what
type of person she is.....
LoverKaren: Flagged for God, how religion was never really talked about except her parents’
occupation
Yesi: I think the fact that you openly include faith in your books makes that much more special.
Shelly: I was upset with some blogs criticizing Abby and her nursing knowledge of avoiding sex
With a rocker with multiple partners. This is fiction and a romance novel; some readers think it’s
like TV reality
LoverKaren: But religion comes up in several books, Gabriel Inferno and Rapture have heavy
religious themes. Have never seen flack on that
Katie Ashley: well, even in 50 Shades, when Christian is almost killed, Ana says that she wants
to go to church the next day
Katie Ashley: YES, I should have had Jake mention that he had been tested
Katie Ashley: before they had sex, even with the condom
Katie Ashley: it was probably a bad message for her to put her mouth there where so many others
had been
Yesi: Lol
Kristina: lol...
Maria D: lol!!
Yesi: Keep that in mind for the future reformed man-whores of our book world! Lol
Yesi: :)
Katie Ashley: it was addressed with Aidan and Emma because they had blood tests an all
Katie Ashley: and I probably should have had Jake make Billie Jean used one
Katie Ashley: ol
LoverKaren: Testing saves lives, and young adults are the highest statistic for STD in this
country. Some get knowledge from books, not real people which is a shame. BTW, you know I
love you, so all good.
LoverMichelle: Personally, I do look for those things in book, and I think it's important because
a recent book had a girl having sex with a player. And it was completely out of character for this
girl not to unprotected sex.
LoverMichelle: So her act of having unprotected sex did not fix her character.
LoverMichelle: And I'm not talking about Music of the Heart. So as a reader, I do look at those
things too.
Yesi: I do too.
Katie Ashley: yes, I know the book you're talking about. I was appalled by that
Katie Ashley: Denise, I would love to give Gabe and Eli their own books....Micah is kinda out
for the count since he's leaving the band to get married
Katie Ashley: lol, Karen, it's funny because in the other scenes I was so careful for him to always
go for a condom...even when he was banging her against the barn wall
Shelly: Will you include updates on Abby and Jake in those books?
Katie Ashley: we'll see. I'm overwhelmed right now, both good and bad, at the thoughts of
getting to write AJ and Rhys's books. ]
LoverKaren: I could say something about barn walls but TMI
Katie Ashley: Originality is Huge to me, so I'm so afraid of it being the same story
Katie Ashley: don't tell me they're bad for infectious diseases? OR you have your own story
Kristina: lol
Katie Ashley: I will own a farm one day...I love the backwoods. I guess that's obvious from my
books
Katie Ashley: then I can build a barn for me and Mr. Ashley to reenact scenes in
Yesi: Now you have to write a book about a HOT farm boy!!!
Maria D: lol!
Yesi: :)
Yesi: Haha
Katie Ashley: lo
LoverMichelle: So next book out is Don't Hate the Player? Then what?
Nancy: Yes!
Katie Ashley: Search Me will be June 30th and then between all the traveling I've got coming up,
it's going to be late summer/early fall for The pairing
Maria D: :D
Yesi: :D
Kristina: AJ = yummy!!
LoverMichelle: Okay, ladies, I want to wrap this up so Katie can move on to her next
"appointment." Thank you all for coming and supporting Katie! And Katie, thank you once again
