(VACUUM TEST)
5.0 TEST PROCEDURE: After welding and the welded seam are cooled down nearly to the ambient temperature, a vacuum test shall be conducted to the welded seams as follows: 5.1 The Ship fitter, Pipe fitter or Welder receives instruction from the section supervisor to conduct vacuum testing. 5.2 The Production workers prepare the test equipment and materials, such as: the vacuum box w/ pressure gauge, compressed air header, soapsuds, hose and flashlight. 5.3 Clean the welds from dust, flux, oil, and other contaminants as well as the sharp edges before conducting the vacuum test. 5.4 The Production Supervisor shall fill-up the Request for Inspection and Acceptance Form QC-201B and advise the Quality Control to attend and witness the test at least 1 hour before the test. 5.5 Apply the soapsuds solution by spray or wiping on the welding seam to be tested and place the vacuum box over it and inject at least 2 psi of compressed air. 5.6 Checked the welds on the area covered by the vacuum box if there are leaks as seen on traces of bubbles. 5.7 If there are leaks, the defective area must be gouge, clean and weld again. 5.8 Re-test again the affected area using the same procedure until successfully passed the vacuum test in the presence of SDC Quality Control. 5.9 If no traces of bubbles, the welded area covered during the test is satisfactory passed the vacuum test 5.10 If needed, the Quality Control or Section Supervisor shall advise the Owners Representative and/or Class Surveyor for witnessing the test final inspection and acceptance. 5.11 The Inspection and Acceptance Report (QC-201B) shall be accomplished and signed by the Owners Representative, Class Surveyor, Section Supervisor and Quality Control. 5.12 Clean and clear the area and return the used equipment and materials to the tool shop.
