I. SCOPE : This specification is applicable to medium voltage single core shielded power cable insulated with a EPR or XLPE dielectric. II. STANDARD OF MANUFACTURE AND TEST : - ICEA - S68 -516 : EPR - insulated wire and cable for the transmission and distribution of electrical energy. - AEIC CS6-87 : EPR - insulated shielded power cables rated 5 through 69 KV - ICEA - S66 -524 : XLPE - insulated wire and cable for the transmission and distribution of electrical energy. - AEIC CS5-87 : Thermoplastic and crosslinked polyethylene insulated shielded power cables rated 5 through 35 KV. III. DESCRIPTIONS : A. SERVICE CONDITIONS : The single core underground cable shall be designed and fabricated, suitable for installation in the conduit, trench or direct burial under ground in wet and dry locations. The cables are capable of operating continuously at a maximum conductor temperature of 90 C for normal operation, 130 C for emergency overload conditions, and 250 C for short circuit conditions
B. CONSTRUCTION : Basic construction : Single core concentric compact stranded copper, extruded semi-conducting EPR or XLPE compound conductor screen, EPR or XLPE insulation, extruded semi-conducting EPR or XLPE compound insulation screen, copper shield tape, binder tape and PE oversheath.
1. Conductor : The conductor is constructed from stranded round uncoated soft copper wires. These wires are compacted to minimize diameter of conductor. Nominal area of conductor : 500 mm2 .

2. Conductor screen : The screen should be an extruded layer of semi-conducting XLPE compound for XLPE insulated cable or EPR compound for EPR insulated cable . The minimum average thickness of the screen should be not less than 0.635 mm, and the minimum thickness at any point should be not less than 0.508 mm . Volume resistivity of conductor screen at 90 C and 130C : 1000-m The screen should be easily removable from the conductor and inseparably bonded the overlaying insulation. It should be compatible with the insulation and have allowable operating temperatures equal to or higher than those of the insulation .
3. Insulation : The insulation should be cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) , and its average thickness shall not be less than 6.6 mm (100 % insulation level). The minimum thickness at any cross-section of the insulation should be not less than 90 % of the above average thickness . The insulation should be triple-tandem extruded with the conductor screen and insulation screens in order to prevent inter surface contamination. 4. Insulation screen . The screen should be an extruded layer of semi-conducting XLPE compound for XLPE insulated cable or EPR compound for EPR insulated cable . The peel strength when stripping the extruded insulation screen from the insulation shall be tested per AEIC CS-5 D1-1 for XLPE insulated cable or AEIC CS-6 D1-1 for EPR insulated cable.

The maximum thickness of the extruded screen should be 2.159 mm and the minimum thickness of the screen should be 1.016 mm. 5. Metallic shield : The extruded shield should be covered with one continuous bare copper tape which should be 0.127 mm thick and applied spirally with a 12.5 % nominal overlap. 6. Binder tape : A layer of non-metallic tape shall be lapped on the metallic shield. 7. Oversheath : Oversheath should be a 2.79 mm extruded polyethylene (PE) containing a termite repellent additive. The minimum thickness at any point should be not less than 80 % of the above specified values .
8. Cable identification : The following identifying legend should be repeatedly embossed on the outer surface of the PE oversheath at one meter intervals : - Type of cable : 24 KV XLPE (EPR) / PE 1C - CU -500 mm 2. - Manufacturer 's name : - Year of manufacture :
9. Metre marking of cable : Cable length should be sequentially marked numerically at 1m intervals . The metre marking should be limited to six digits and any drum length may start at any integral number . The height of the number should be not less than 5 mm . The cable should be wound on the drum with the lowest number at the drum outer end.

Continuous current : 640 A The above continuous current shall be calculated at the following conditions : - Installation : Direct burial under ground, flat form. - Ground temperature : 15C - Maximum conductor temperature : 90C - Thermal resistivity of soil : 1.2 Cm/W - Depth of burial cable : 0.8m 12. Short time withstand current : The cable must withstand the short circuit current of 70KA for one second without damage. (based on initial temperature of conductor of 90 C and final temperature of 250 C for copper screen) IV. TESTING REQUIREMENTS : 1. Testing items : a. 2. Requirements : In order to ensure the quality of supplied goods , in case of bid winning , the Tenderer shall supply routine test and copies of type test reports met the following requirements : a. Routine test shall be performed for each equipment.

Type test report shall be approved by an lawful, reputable, independent testing laboratory with the following content : - Testing sample : the same as the supplied item (manufacturer, country of origin, manufactures code as specified in tender document). - Testing items : Including at least testing items as specified in Section IV.1 of this specification. - Testing values shall be corresponding values as stated in Section III of this specification. If in section III, there are no corresponding values, testing values will be selected according to the standard specified in section II of this specification. V.
