Bath Time
Story By: Andrew Frinkle
Sophia loved bath time. It was an adventure every time. Sometimes she played with her rubber ducks. She had seven floating ducks the colors of the rainbow. They looked silly bobbing in the water. They were really fun. Other times in her bath, she played with water squirting fish. There were six of them. Each of them was a different shape and color. They squirted water like squirt guns. That was pretty fun, but it wasnt the most fun. Her favorite thing to play with in the tub was boats. She had five floating boats. Each was different and fun to play with for its own reason. One was really big and long. Dad said it was an aircraft carrier. It moved slowly when she played with it, and she imagined that airplanes and helicopters landed on it and took off. Another one was skinny and long. It barely floated. Most of it was underwater. She knew it was a submarine. Whenever she played with it, she would give orders, Dive! Surface! Fire! It was exciting. A small one looked like a fishing boat, the kind she saw on TV pulling in fish and crab. She could pretend that there were a lot of guys working on the boat working the nets and catching huge fish for dinner. The fourth one was a speed boat. She liked to move it really fast and imagine that she was water skiing across the bathtub behind it. Shed never gone skiing, but shed seen it done, and it looked fast and fun! The last one was a tiny rowboat. Grandpa had one like it, and she knew exactly what that was like. He would pull on the oars and guide them across small lakes. It was her favorite, because it reminded her of him. Sophia! The water must be cold. Mother called in to her. Time to get out now! Im getting out now, mom! Sophia shouted back. Sophia pulled the drain and watched as her boats were dragged toward the drain. Slowly they began to turn, spinning faster as the water ran out. When the water was gone, she toweled herself off and then her boats. Until next time... She whispered to her boats as she left them on the counter by the sink to finish drying.
