Psalm 30 Uninhibited, unhindered, unconcerned over his appearance, David dances a soul dance before the Lord.

Davids heart is full of praise and adoration for our God. His motives and actions pure, David expresses the joy of his very being. Why is he joyful? God is present. His glory is near. His ark is home. Does the presence of the Lord cause your soul to dance?

Day One: 1) Lets read 2 Sam. 5:1-12 and see what God has done for His servant, David. What major events happened in this passage? 2) In verses 1-3, how do the people describe their connection to David? 3) Name the 3 reasons they gave for anointing David King: 4) According to verse 4, how old is David when he is anointed king by the people? 5) How does this anointing differ from the one in 1 Samuel 16:13 and from the one in 2 Samuel 2:4? 6) Think about all that had happened between that first anointing by Samuel when David was a teen and this anointing at Hebron. List 2 or 3 difficulties David faced during the waiting years.

Day Two: Today, well see how David began to unite the previously divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah and how he established the capital of Jerusalem. 1) Read 2 Samuel 5:6-12 and 1 Chronicles 11:4-9 to get the whole picture of Davids conquest of Jerusalem. Summarize the events in these two passages. 2) According to 2 Sam. 5:7, what are two other titles given to Jerusalem? 3) Jerusalem is the city most spoken of in all of Scripture. Locate the city of Jerusalem on your map. Do a quick word study to discover two other important facts about Jerusalem. 4) Verses 10-12 recount Davids blessing and his confidence in the LORD. How did God bless him?

Day Three: Today will be a bit of a big reading day. 1) Lets dive right in and read 2 Samuel 6 completely through. 2) Chapter 6 focuses on the movement of the Ark of God. Trace the path of the Ark of God. Where did it go and what happened? 3) In verses 9-11, why was David afraid? 4) After hearing of Gods blessing, Davids confidence was renewed and again he began the process of bringing the ark to Jerusalem. As the Ark of God made its way, in the prescribed manner, (Num. 3:30,31; 4:15; 7:9; Ex. 25:12-15) David rejoiced by doing what? 5) As David rejoiced over the glory of God, his wife Michal was more concerned about the glory of her husband, and his reputation before others. As David returned to bless his household, he was met with disdain. How did God punish Michal for her sinful heart attitude? 6) In verses 17-19, Davids joy at the placement of the Ark in the tabernacle he built, was shared with the people through Davids offerings to the LORD, his blessing over them and his gift of food to them. Gods presence should bring joy to our soul and generosity to our heart and hands. How does the presence of the LORD affect you?

Day Four: Now we turn to our Psalm to see all that David has learned of our great God. Turn to Psalm 30 and read it all at once. 1) In verses 1-4, David seems to be reflecting over the many years of difficulty he faced before becoming king. Who did he discover God to be during those years? 2) Davids reflections prompt him to praise in verse 4. Yet, in verse 5, David speaks of Gods anger. Thinking back to the mishandling of the Ark, what did David understand about the serious nature of Gods holiness? 3) Although David remembers Gods anger, he emphasizes the _______________ of God. Copy the last part of verse 5 and make this truth a permanent default in your mind. 4) Verses 6-7 show that in Davids humanity, he became prideful. Yet, in Gods kindness, He prompted David to repent (vv. 8-10) and gave mercy. How does the description of God hiding His face demonstrate His mercy in Davids life? 5) Verses 11-12 show the great exchange God made in Davids life. God changed Davids ___________________ to_____________________. How has God done the same thing in your own life?

Day Five: 1) Today lets praise God by reading back through the Psalm. 2) Complete the sentence My God is 3) Praise God for all you discover about Him today.
