Be Careful in the Sun Many people travel from the United Kingdom every year in search of the sun. The sun should be enjoyed, but overexposure can cause sunburn and increased risk of skin cancer. It is the ultraviolet rays that cause this; they can damage your skin anywhere, but the nearer the Equator you go the more powerful they are. It is particularly important to be careful with your children and babies should not be placed in direct sunlight at all. Stay out of the sun for at least two hours around midday. You should stay in the shade during those hours and do not forget to wear a hat. Protective creams for your skin type can help protect exposed parts of the body. Always remember to wear good sunglasses. Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours and make sure you drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids to balance the loss of body fluid through perspiration. Take care in water. Never go swimming alone. Bathing will cool you off but remember that accidents can happen very easily and in the most unexpected conditions. Children should always be supervised by an adult who can swim well. If you are going to dive into water, make sure that it is deep enough for you to do so safely. Each year, many people are permanently paralyzed as a result of diving into shallow water. 46. Diner Leaves Waitress $10,000 Tip A waitress's regular customer left her a $10,000 tip for a $26 meal last month. Cindy Kienow, who works at a restaurant in the US state of Kansas, was stunned by the tip she received. "I couldn't move. I didn't know what to say," explained 35-year-old Kienow. "The customer said, 'This will buy you something kind of nice, huh?' And I replied, 'Yeah, it will'." Kienow said the man comes in several times a month and eats at the bar. He has always tipped well, usually leaving $15 on a $30 meal. Then one day he gave a $100 tip, followed by the real shocker. "He usually signs his ticket and turns it upside down," said Kienow, who has worked at the restaurant for eight years. "But this time he had it right-side up and said, 'I want you to know this is not a joke'." Kienow said that although she always talks with the man - usually about current events or the weather - she can't think of anything that prompted the huge tip. "I've been waiting on him for about three years," she said. "We just talk across the bar - he's a really nice guy. I hope he comes back in, so I can say thank you, because the other day I was dumbfounded." Kienow said now that the media frenzy is over, she is content to keep serving customers at the restaurant. "That's the pure joy of my job, that I just get to talk with people," she added. As for what she'll do with the money, Kienow got the impression that her customer wanted her to buy something special. "There's a Jeep that I've had my eye on for a while," she said.
