Quick Stroke Challenge

AASuccess is always up for trying something new to improve the Life Skills Academy Program. One of the already successful Life Skills Academy activities is the Quick Stroke Challenge (QSC), which aims to test the average student. Currently, AASuccesss Life Skills Academy is promoting a biweekly QSC. Every other Saturday, we will post a challenge question. Everyone can participate, and the most insightful response will win a $10 gift card. The result will be posted as the next QSC begins. Our first QSC: Watch the six minute video, Candy Chang: Before I Die I Want To, and provide an insight about the main message conveyed by the speaker and how its related to your core values. Tuberculosis Awareness and Speech Contest

What does a typical AASuccess student do during the weekly Saturday meetings? Other than work on individual projects and learning life skills with one of the many professional coaches, AASuccess students can be found participating in contests to enhance their knowledge, apply their life skills, and release a healthy dose of competitiveness. On the weekend of October 6, the hot topic was Tuberculosis (TB), of which an informative flyer was sent to the students to study and partake in some independent researching of their own. A TB specialist was invited from the Fairfax County Health Department to give a brief presentation on Tuberculosis awareness and how it is more common in the Asian community. After the specialist answered all the questions that the students had about the presentation, it was time for the students to prepare for the speech contest. Present at the speech contest, AASuccess President, Vihanh Tham agreed that the students finished the objective of the contest: The contest goal was to articulate Tuberculosis prevention, clinics for care, and TBs effect on their families and friends. We received good feedback from our presenters about student participation and the judges saw the competitive spirit of our young participants. After a Saturday like this, AASuccess students leave with new knowledge on a critical new topic and practice on a particular area of weakness, in this case, articulation.
