I. PAST INITIATIVES

Past Initiatives
CHED Zonal Center for Regions IV and V by managing research activities and enhancing the research productivity of 51 HEIs. Through BIDANI partnered with the Provincial Government of Laguna to provide technical assistance in the use of the Barangay Management Information System (BMIS)

Past Initiatives
Assisted Laguna LGUs in the conduct of EIAs of their projects on water and sewerage systems and led in the conduct of day care training and advocacy workshops in collaboration with the Laguna Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office

Past Initiatives
Technical assistance to the DTI-CALABARZON in establishing its National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center. Veterinarians have also led advocacy workshops for the formulation of policies on animal health in Laguna

Past Initiatives
Maintained our partnership with IRRI and the BSP to address common concerns especially MFR conservation and held inter-agency meetings on the management of the MFR buffer zone with institutional stakeholders

Past Initiatives
Partnered with local government units in environmental conservation and climate change adaptation and mitigation activities as well as disaster risk reduction initiatives. Assisted LGUS of Batangas and Laguna in crafting their local environment codes.

Past Initiatives
The UPLB Interdisciplinary Program on Climate Change worked with the LGUs of Los Baos, Calamba, and Bay in Laguna and Infanta in Quezon to discuss mitigation and adaptation measures at the village level. conducted an IEC campaign on climate change in partnership with the Province of Albay

Past Initiatives
Prepared the climate change adaptation plan of various LGUs in Albay and implemented the climate change action-research project Enhancing the Climate Change Adaptation Capacity of LGUs and Scientists in the Philippines.

Community Programs
1.

Gurong Pahinungod Program (GPP)

Full-time volunteers (UPLB graduates) serve as faculty of public high schools Areas: Mindoro, Camiguin, Abra, Apayao, Romblon, Palawan Terminated in 2007 with the end of MOA with DepEd pending revisions and approval of UP System With annual 5M budget earmarked by the DepEd for release upon formulation of new MOA

II. CURRENT INITIATIVES OF THE UPLB UNITS

College of Arts and Sciences

Training on Action Research for teachers at the LBNHS in 2007 PLANS - tutorial clinics on different fields to the students of secondary and elementary levels using the NSTP students as tutors

COLLEGE OF DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION

Adopt-a-school - Los Baos Central Elementary School (LBCES). devcomm@il - DDJ continues to produce and publish the College's official monthly newsletter, the devcomm@il.

COLLEGE OF DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION

The Los Banos Times - Students of DEVC 123 (Management and Production of a Community Newspaper), a course offered under the Department, continue to produce and publish the community newspaper The Los Baos Times. Los Baos Times online (www.lbtimes.ph) last April 2011.

Radyo DZLB - serves as the main extension arm of CDC.

Basic Economic Literacy Training (BELT) for public and private high school economics teachers, in collaboration with Department of Education-Division of Laguna Basic Cooperative Training Courses for Los Baos and Calamba Citybased multi-purpose cooperative officers and managers CEM-based NSTP Livelihood and Literacy Volunteer Program, in collaboration with Department of Education-Division of Laguna Alternative Learning System (ALS)

Technical assistance to Corn-production processing mechanization of the Calamba Upland Farmers MultiPurpose Cooperative

Evaluation of the performance and sustainability of a drip irrigation system in a small-scale corn-based farm in Kay-anlog, Calamba

Operation and administration of the Child Development Laboratory (CDL) and Day Care Laboratory (DCL). Capacity Assessment of Local Government Units for Nutrition Improvement and Capacity Building of Local Level Nutrition Workers Towards an Improved Management of Nutrition Programs

Training of Trainers on Nutrition Program Management and the Training of Trainers on Basic Course for Barangay Nutrition Scholars

COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY

DCERP-CHE was to be engaged by the History, Arts and Culture Affairs Office of Laguna (LAHACO) to establish a system for the inventory of cultural heritage in Laguna. DCERP prepared and submitted to the Provincial Government of Laguna a Briefing paper on the proposed cityhood of the Municipality of Bian Laguna. The 6th Human Ecological Camp was successfully held with the theme Ako Mismo!Aksyon Para sa Kalikasan.

COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY

The BIDANI Network Program has been providing technical assistance in the municipalities of Los Banos, Bay, Calauan, Nagcarlan, Sta Cruz and Rizal in promoting local development through the establishment of the computerized Barangay Management Information System (BMIS).

Technical assistance on BMIS upgrading and updating was provided in the 17 barangays of Los Baos. The BMIS of Infanta, Quezon was finalized and the municipal staff was mentored on how to merge the BMIS to Municipal Management Information System.

BIDANI tied up with the Municipality of Nagcarlan for the operational research entitled Effectiveness of Supplementary Feeding of KALINGA in Nagcarlan Laguna.

COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY

The UPLB-BIDANI Program continued its role to provide capabilitybuilding activities to State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Government Units through its development planning strategy and training activities. BIDANI and SIKAP-BIDANI Development Foundation, Inc. a nongovernment institution engaged in providing micro-finance assistance, continued its partnership to address the malnutrition problem in depressed barangays through pilot testing of a participatory nutrition improvement approach called Participative Nutrition Enhancement Project (PNEP) in the Municipality of Rizal, Laguna.

COLLEGE OF HUMAN ECOLOGY

Selected IHNF faculty and staff have been recommended to be a member of the Food Safety Team (FST) of CALABARZON for the implementation of the Department of science and Technology (DOST) project entitled LGUs and SUCs Capability Building on Food Safety System and Development of Provincial Food Safety Teams in CALABARZON. The Department of Human Family Development Services launched the Elderly Care and Development Program on September 3, 2011 On-going Day Care Resource Center Trainings

The Nutrition Wellness Clinic In 2011, UPLB=BIDANI initiated the project for the Search of Outstanding Breastfeeding Mothers entitled Dakila ka Nanay, Dahil Pagpapasuso Mo kay Baby ay Mahusay in the municipalities of Nagcarlan and Rizal, Laguna. As part of the re-birth of the BIDANI Network Program, the Batangas State University (BatStateU) was the first to be revitalized.

Immersion-Missions (I-M) A social-consciousness raising program where volunteers render service in selected areas from 1 week to 3 weeks and provide programmed assistance to the community
