During the 17th century, Catholics and Protestants butchered one another in the Holy Roman Empire as the

Thirty Years War raged in central Europe. In jolly old England, Puritans and Calvinists battled the State and the Church of England over the authority of the bishops. While in France, Catholic persecution of the Protestant Huguenots forced 200,000 to flee for their lives. French mathematician and physicist, Blaise Pascal, observed of the Christian internecine bloodbath: Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction. Our generation isnt one iota more civilized as today's religious fanatics continue the fight to control the worlds societies and governments. In the USA, an Egyptian ex-con, who happens to be a Coptic Christian, produced a movie short mocking Mohammad. The movie caused a firestorm as Muslims rioted, attacking western embassies and killing the American Ambassador to Libya. Capitalizing on the media attention, the French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, published cartoons poking fun at Mohammads expense. Their rationale was that the best way to fight religious fanatics is to mock them and their beliefs, and Islam should be no exception. That is, in fact, the best argument Ive heard so far. New York City took a cue as well, posting ads in the subway chiding Islamic jihadists as savages. The west has had a troublesome relationship with the Middle East, since it began occupying various countries, overthrowing their governments, and propping up puppet dictatorships. And they bristled as their puppets were overthrown by Islamists or went rogue. Then a group of Islamic extremists attacked America on September 11, 2001. Thats been quite confusing because the US was terrorized by a group of Saudi Arabians, funded by wealthy Saudis, including members of the Saudi royals and Osama bin Ladens own family. So Washington secretly flew bin Laden's relatives out of the US and retaliated against Afghanistan. Huh? Well, that's because the Islamic fundamentalist Taliban was harboring the organizer of the terrorist attacks. But Washington abandoned the hunt for bin Laden and channeled American fury to one of our own rogue puppets, Iraq, who had neither provoked nor threatened the US. But Iraq does have the worlds second largest oil reserves, and 110,000 innocent victims -Muslim women, children, and men -- paid the ultimate price for it.

Lest anyone believe that America is immune to religious fanatics attempting to control its society and government, consider that its virtually impossible to be elected President unless a candidate wears Christianity on his or her sleeve 24 hours a day. Profuse professions of faith are an absolute for political success, and not just any old brand of Christianity. Politically active Christian conservatives are succeeding in seizing control of Mega-church photo by Joe Shlabotnik the government through political action, to force their version of religious ethics on the country and political candidates. Theyre known as Dominionists and make no mistake, these Christian conservatives seek nothing less than an American Theocracy; and they wont stop until they get it. Meanwhile, fanatic Christian zealots, who believe theyre the vanguard of the end of days in Revelations apocalypse, have led a quiet coup to infiltrate the highest ranks of the US military and military academies. Groups like Officers Christian Fellowship, that practice coercive or brutish tactics against military nonChristians and especially Jews, use their rank to promote evangelicals and obstruct everyone else. Like-minded Mission Accomplished proselytizes members of the military at home. Theyve taken the concept of God and Country to a whole new level as they try to impose a theocracy on the military, and promote their belief that the separation of church and state is a fallacy. These Christian crusaders are the same ones who throw gasoline on every Middle East Medieval Soldiers Going to the Crusades by John Pallister conflict, trying to ignite the Bibles Apocalypse. If God somehow changed his mind about Revelations Armageddon, Americas Christian fanatics would make sure he sticks to the plan. Its unfair, of course, to lump in religious moderates with radicals. But its absolute folly to believe we can do anything to influence Islamic extremists any more than we can speak rationally to radical Christian zealots. But we can mock them for their effrontery, shamelessness, and ignorance, and to that I say: well done, Charlie Hebdo. galenwatson.blogspot.com
