System Architecture
Hardware Architecture
The hardware of ZXSS10 SS1b consists of the foreground (real-time processing part), background (database server and CDR server) and a switched Ethernet unit which connects all the internal modules. The connection is shown in Fig 1.

Figure 1

ZXSS10 SS1b Hardware Components and Its Connection

ZXSS10 SS1b adopts special hardware platform based on multi processing cards. Compare to PC and commercial workstation hardware platform, it has the advantages of big capacity, high density, high reliability and is cost-effective. The background includes the CDR server and the database server. The database server provides the storage of static service data, configured data and user data. The foreground accesses or writes data from or to the background by responsible interfaces. For all call processed by the foreground, its CDR information will be transport to the CDR server according to relative format when the call has been finished , moreover the billing center needs to periodically collect the CDR files in the CDR server. The background database server could adopt SUN workstations which are able to work in a redundant way or PC server as the database server. For the operation and maintenance terminal, it can either be connected with SS1b directly or be connected across the network management network. ZXSS10 SS1b adopts an Ethernet structure which connects all the processing modules to form a loose coupling concurrent multi processing system. The following figure shows the hardware logical structure.

Processor Module

The primary control module (card) in the system slot controls the whole system and network and allocates the work of processor. SPC, as the core module of the system, provides the core functions like network control, business generation. The protocol processing, business generation and controlling are all processed by software. The processor module can process different protocols according to the configuration. The GNIC/NIC (network interface card) provides external interface to different gateway devices and internal interface to all kinds of application server, database, authentication server, OAM terminal and IN SCP. The two kinds of interfaces are independent for safety. The external interface provides routing function to configure the static router. It ensures the softswitch control device can access the core network of IP flexibly and conveniently. It receives IP packages of different protocols from network interface module and process them by processor module (card).

Billing and Accounting

Billing Mechanism
Figure 6 ZXSS10 SS1b billing system

ZXSS10 SS1b performs user signaling processing, calling connection and relevant media controlling. All the detailed billing information is provided by ZXSS10 SS1b. No matter what kind of terminals and calling type, ZXSS10 SS1b generates the user raw billing information in the same mechanism. The difference between the information is the content in some field. This information then reaches the background CDR server as CDR (Call Detail Record) file. The CDR file will be stored and has backup for the future inquiry. The raw billing information includes call ID, called ID, start time, end time, lasting time of conversation and so on. The billing data can be outputted immediately once the call finishes. For the long time conversation, the bill can be outputted during the conversation. The detailed billing records can meet the different billing strategies. ZXSS10 SS1b supports outputting bill during the conversation. ZXSS10 SS1b adopts a four level storage (memory buffer, file buffer, billing server buffer and billing centre storage) to ensure the security of bill. The process is as following: after a calling finishes, the bill of this calling is generated and recorded to the bill backup file of foreground and transferred to the bill server meantime. The bill server generates the backup of the bill file. It provides the function of bill format conversation according to the requirement, generating the bill file cyclic or in pre-defined size when outputting bill file to billing centre. The bill file transferring destination could be configured. One bill file can be transferred to one or multiple destinations at one time. The bill can be stored in different folders based on the areas and be accessed by different billing centre. The billing server provides several ways of billing file generation: generating in a certain time, generating in the multiple of a pre-defined time, generating periodically, generating based on the quantity of bill.

Generating in a certain time, that is, billing file is generated in the pre-defined time. Generating in the multiple of a pre-defined time, billing file is generated in the multiple of a pre-defined time. Generating periodically, billing file is generated periodically. Generating based on the number of bill. When the number of bill reaches a limit, the billing file will be generated, having nothing to do with time. The second and fourth ways can be enabled both, which means, if the number of bill reaches the limit but the current time does not match the pre-defined time, the bill file also will be generated. ZXSS10 SS1b provides various formats of bill: ordinary binary bill of ZTE 559 bytes, ZXJ10 raw bill, 97 national standard bills, and 2002 national standard bill. ZXSS10 SS1b CDR server is based on high performance PC server hardware platform, supporting backup.

It provides off line function in real time.

8.3

Accounting Interface
A real-time interface for subscriber data modification and obtainment exists between ZTE SS1b and the accounting system. The subscriber data which can be modified include the basic subscriber data (subscription, cancel subscription, suspension, activation, inactivation), subscriber authority service data (call authority, service application, service cancellation, etc.), and subscriber service customized data (customization and modification of specific service data). ZXSS10 SS1b provides MML accounting interface. The MML interface interacts over TCP/IP protocol. The account system implements relevant accounting functions by invoking a series of man-machine commands. The accounting interface device can manage lots of network nodes and be set with network interface in physical. The accounting interface interacts in two ways: SOCKET programming and Telnet. For SOCKET programming, the accounting interface device is the server while the accounting system is client. The communication ports can be configured. For Telnet, the accounting interface device is the Telnet server while the accounting system is Telnet client. We recommend the SOCKET programming. The accounting interface device usually has double network cards, connecting DCN network and service network separately. This is to set up and maintain the communication links between accounting interface device and network nodes and the
