Description of Learners: The learners are from BSN-III block A.

They are assigned at the Surgical Ward of Western Pangasinan District Hospital, 3-11 shift for the month of November. Almost all of the students' age range from 19-20 but there are two students who are on their mid-30 because they have already earned their bachelor's degree before and currently taking up nursing as their second course. Their academic load requires them to report two days in school and two days in the clinical area for their RLE or practicum. Their exposure to the clinical setting enables them to apply the theories they have learned in the classroom, recently it was mandated that their Class instructor be their clinical instructor as well, so that there will be congruence with the theoretical and clinical aspects of teaching. Focus of Clinical Experience Nursing Care for clients who are confined In the Surgical Ward who has undergone surgical procedures. Setting The Surgical Ward is adjacent to the Pathology Department of Pangasinan Provincial Hospital, located on the left wing of the said institution. It has a 50-bed capacity. Briefing or Orientation 1. Explain the Learning objectives of the RLE in the surgical area. 2. Discuss the requirements and Specific Activities 3. Receive the endorsement from the outgoing shift 4. Explain the nature of Evaluation and grading system as follows: Cognitive: Cognitive knowledge Psychomotor Assessment Planning and Implementation Evaluation Requirements: (3) Nursing Care Plans (3) Drug Study (2) Journal Reaction Paper (1) Evaluation Exam Total : 100% 15% 25% 5% 10% 5% 10% 10% 10% 20% Affective: Attitude and Professionalism 10% a. Complies with the rules and regulations of the course concerning 2.5% physical appearance (wears prescribed uniform, brings paraphernalias, punctuality) b. Respects the right of the instructors, watchers, staff and 2.5% classmates c. Considers the culture and religion of the patient in rendering 2.5% nursing care d. Shows commitment, concern and dedication (punctuality, 2.5% adheres to policy, show pleasure in work)
