Before understanding the Bible, I used to wonder what kind of a God would require innocent animals to be slaughtered. I used to think it was some sort of a middle eastern thing, since the Muslims seem to do it as well.
I also remember that in the Charlton Heston movie The Ten Commandments, blood was painted in the door posts of all the Israelites, and much later, after I knew Jesus, I read the passage in Exodus that ".. the BLOOD shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD, I WILL PASS OVER YOU, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt Exodus 12:13...
Wow, God's wrath passed over them because He saw blood and that was the blood of some dumb goat (ok, lamb).
Imagine how much more powerful the sight of the blood of His own son be to a God who sent him to die in our place? Actually,we do not need to imagine. It is all there in the scriptures and it is powerful!

The blood protects us from the penalty of breaking the law (death). In Exodus 12, God commands the people of Israel to put the blood of a lamb on their door-posts to protect them from the destroyer - who would kill all the first-born. This lamb was a picture of the Lamb Jesus - Who would come later. God said, ..."when I see the blood, I will pass over you..." (vs.13).

sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water" (Heb 10:19-22).
2. Eternal Life
"Jesus said to them, 'I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up at the last day'" (John 6:53,54).

3. Approach To God
"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ" (Eph 2:13).
MY COMMITMENT
I now understand what the shed blood of Jesus means to God, to Satan and to me. I make my commitment to share with others the truth concerning the blood of Christ. I will remind myself often of the covenant God has with me, to forgive my sin and cleanse me from sin and protect me from Satan's harm.
