Candidates can apply for the post of Probationary Clerk in ONE STATE ONLY. On Selection, candidates will be placed any where in that state depending upon Bank's need and the candidates will have to work in the place of posting for a minimum period of 1 year. Pay Scale, Allowances and Perquisites as applicable: Probationary Clerks Rs. 4410-13210 *In addition to DA, HRA, CCA, Medical Aid, Hospitalisation expenses, conveyance expenses, LFC and retirement benefits are admissible as per the rules of the Bank. It is clarified that Persons with Disabilities will have to work in Branches/ Offices which have posts identified by the Bank as suitable for them. Candidates belonging to Reserved Category, including Persons with Disabilities, for which no reservation has been announced, are free to apply for vacancies announced for General category. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: NATIONALITY / CITIZENSHIP: A candidate must be either i) a Citizen of India or ii) a subject of Nepal or iii) subject of Bhutan or iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the interview conducted by the Bank but on final selection the offer of appointment may be given only after the Government of India has issued the necessary eligibility certificate to him/her. 2. (iii) All persons eligible for age relaxation under 6 above must produce the domicile certificate at the time of interview, from the District Magistrate in the Kashmir Division within whose jurisdiction he/she had ordinarily resided or any other authority designated in this regard by the Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir, to the effect that the candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the Kashmir Division of the state of Jammu & Kashmir during 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989. (iv) Above relaxations are available only if the candidates fulfill the various conditions prescribed in the Govt. of India orders and instructions in this regard. To claim age relaxation, reserved category candidates should submit a copy of the Community Certificate. 3. Definition of Categories of Disabilities: Definition: Physically Challenged Persons (PC) (a) An Orthopaedically Challenged (OC) person is one who is suffering from Locomotor Disability or Cerebral Palsy. Persons who suffer from not less than 40% of the relevant disability (as certified by a Medical Board appointed by the Center/ State Govt) would be eligible for reservation in services/ posts. SNo. 1. 2. 3. 4. Categories Locomotor Disability means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy means a group of non progressive conditions of a person characterized by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the pre-natal, peri-natal, or infant period of development. (b) Deaf & Hearing Impaired (HI) : the deaf are those persons in whom the sense of hearing is non- functional for ordinary purposes of life i.e. total loss of hearing in both ears. They do not hear, understand sounds at all even with amplified speech. Hearing impairment means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. (c) Visually Impaired (VI) : The visually impaired persons are those suffering from blindness or low vision. Blindness - refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions: (i) total absence of sight, (ii) Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses, (iii) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse. Person with low vision means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction, but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device. The visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is affected by cerebral palsy can use their own scribe at their cost during the written examination. In all such cases where a scribe is used, the following rules will apply: The candidate will have to arrange his/ her own scribe at i) his/ her own cost. ii) The academic qualification of the scribe should be one grade lower than the stipulated eligibility criteria. iii) The scribe can be from any academic discipline. The scribe should possess 60% or lesser marks. iv) Both the candidate as well as the scribe will have to give a suitable undertaking, confirming that the scribe fulfills all the stipulated eligibility criteria for a scribe as mentioned above. Further, in case, it later transpires that he/ she did not fulfill any of the laid down eligibility criteria or suppresses material facts, the candidature of the applicant will stand cancelled, irrespective of the result of the written examination. v) Such candidates who use a scribe shall be eligible for extra time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination. 4. Minimum Educational Qualification, Post Qualification Work Experience as on 01-01-2009 Qualification Must have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent with 60% marks in aggregate. 5% relaxation available to candidates belonging to the SC/ST/OBC/PC Category Or Graduate in any discipline from any recognized university. Candidate must have successfully completed a computer course of at least 3 months' duration from any Institute recognized by Central/State Govt./AICTE. Post qualification Experience

All Educational Qualifications should be from a recognized Board/ University/ Institute. The Educational Qualifications prescribed for the post are the minimum. Candidates must possess these qualifications and must attach proof thereof along with the Printout. 5. Selection Procedure Merely satisfying the eligibility norms do not entitle a candidate to be called for written test & interview. All the eligible candidates who apply and whose applications are received in time will be considered for selection process, which is through written test & interview. Written Test : The Written Test will be Objective and Descriptive type. The questions in objective tests except for the Test of English will be printed in bilingual, i.e. English and Hindi. The Questions in Descriptive Paper will be printed in bilingual i.e. English and Hindi version. The candidates will have the option to answer the Descriptive paper either in English or Hindi or Official Language of the State/U.T. There will be negative marks for the wrong answers in the Objective Tests. (ii) Depending upon number of vacancies, only a certain number of candidates from the candidates merit listed in the Written Test will be called for Interview. Final selection will be made on the basis of aggregate marks obtained by the candidates in the written test & Interview and will be strictly on merit basis. (iii) The written test will be held on 28.6.2009 (Sunday). (iv) Date of examination is tentative. The exact date will be communicated to the candidates through call letter for each examination. The Bank, however, reserves the right to cancel or make any change in the date of examination, if need arises. (v) The written test will be held at the following Centers. The address of the Venue will be advised in the Call Letter. (vi) The Bank, however, reserves the right to cancel any of the Centers and / or add other Centers, depending on the response, administrative feasibility etc. The Bank also reserves the right to allot the Candidate any Center other than the one he / she has opted for and the right to waive any of the criteria for selection looking at the requirement and exigencies. (vii) The Bank also reserves the right to hold written examination and/or interview at its discretion for posts advertised. Bank also reserves the right to short-list limited number of candidates for posts advertised on the basis of either age, qualification, work experience or any other suitable criteria. 7. *The fee for SC/ST/PC is towards postage only and for others the fee includes postal charges of Rs.50/-. Application fee including postage should be paid by a single Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque issued by a Scheduled Commercial Bank to be drawn as below: United Bank Of India Clerical Recruitment Project-2009 payable at Mumbai. Candidate's name, date of birth, Address, Post Code & Registration Number should be written on the back of demand draft /bankers' cheque. Payment of application fee and/ or postal charges by Cash/ Cheques/ Money Orders/ Postal Order etc will not be accepted. Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque should not be dated before 30.3.2009 & after 27.4.2009 as the On-Line System will not accept such instruments. Even if Bank extends the date of on-line registration by one or two days, the valid dates of Demand Drafts will not be changed. Valid dates of DDs also remain the same for far-flung areas. Application once made will not be allowed to be withdrawn and fees once paid will not be refunded on any account nor can it be held in reserve for any other selection process.

8. Probation : 6 months 9. How to Apply Candidates are required to apply On-Line through website www.unitedbankofindia.com. No other means/ mode of application will be accepted. Guidelines for filling up applications are: (a) Candidate should have a valid e-mail ID. (b) In case a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail Id, he/she should create his/her new e-mail Id before applying on-line. (c) Candidates are advised to keep the Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque, particulars of educational qualifications, caste certificate details, ex-serviceman details, and other personal details ready as these details are required to be entered in the ONLINE APPLICATION. (d) Without Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque details, application will not be registered. (e) To apply open Bank's Website www.unitedbankofindia.com click on the appropriate link alongside i.e. APPLY ONLINE. Fill in the required details therein including the Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque Number, date etc. and click on the SUBMIT button at the end of the ONLINE Application Form. (f) After applying ONLINE, take a print out of System Generated ON-LINE APPLICATION Form in A-4 size paper, firmly paste a recent passport size photograph bearing the signature of the candidate at the appropriate space provided at the right hand top corner of the application form and sign at the bottom of the application form at the space provided. (g) Attach following documents to the System Generated ON-LINE APPLICATION FORM and send by ordinary post (i) Xerox copy of School leaving certificate in support of Date of Birth. (ii) Xerox copy of the Final Degree certificate in respect of passing Graduation examination (Provisional Certificate will be accepted only if the candidate has passed the relevant examination during the past one year i.e. 2008 or the university has not yet issued the certificate). (iii) Year wise /semester-wise Mark sheets for the Graduate and Post Graduate degree or Professional Course. (iv) Medical Certificates in case of Physically Challenged candidates. (v) SC/ST Caste certificate/OBC certificate with Non-Creamy Layer Clause (Not more than one year old). (vi) Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque. Candidate's name, date of birth, Address, Post Code & Registration/Application Number should be written on the back of demand draft / bankers' cheque. (h) System Generated Online Application Form complete in all respects enclosing the above documents and the relevant Demand Draft / Bankers' Cheque should be sent in a closed envelope BY ORDINARY POST ONLY superscribing as APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF Probationary Cash cum General Clerk(Post Code -11) so as to reach on or before the last date to the following address. General Instruction 1) The Bank takes no responsibility for any delay in receipt or loss in postal transit of any application or communication. 2) Only candidates willing to serve anywhere in India should apply. 3) Any resulting dispute arising out of this advertisement shall be subject to the sole jurisdiction of the Courts situated at Kolkata. 4) Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification. 5) The Bank would be free to reject any application, at any stage of the recruitment process, if the candidate is found ineligible for the post for which he/ she has applied. Such appointments will also be subject to the Service & Conduct Rules of the Bank. 12) Candidate's admission to the examination is strictly provisional. The mere fact that the admission letter has been issued to the candidate does not imply that his candidature has been finally cleared by the Bank. 13) Competent Authority for Issue of Certificate to SC/ST/OBC/PC is as under : (a) For SC/ST/OBC-District Magistrate/ Addl. The Central/ State Govt. may constitute Medical Boards consisting of at least 3 members out of which one shall be a specialist in the particular field for assessing locomotor/cerebral/visual/ hearing disability as the case may be. Action Against Candidates Found Guilty of Misconduct : Candidates are advised in their own interest that they should not furnish any particulars that are false, tampered, fabricated and should not surpass any material

information while filling up the application form. At the time of written examination/ interview, if a candidate is (or has been) found guilty of (i) using unfair means during the examination or (ii) impersonating or procuring impersonation by any person or (iii) misbehaving in the examination hall or taking away the question booklet (or any part thereof) / answer sheet from the examination hall or (iv) resorting to any irregular or improper means in connection with his/ her candidature for selection or (v) obtaining support for his / her candidature by unfair means, such a candidate may, in addition to rendering himself / herself liable to criminal prosecution, be liable : (a) To be disqualified from the examination for which he/ she is a candidate. (b) To be debarred either permanently or for a specified period from any examination or recruitment conducted by United Bank Of India (c) For termination of service, if he/ she has already joined the Bank. The Bank would be analyzing the responses of a candidate with other candidates to detect patterns of similarity, if any as per the laid down procedure. If it is suspected that the responses have been shared and scores obtained are not genuine/ valid, the bank reserves right to cancel his/ her candidature. 11. Call Letters for Written Examination: All eligible candidates will be issued call letters at the correspondence address given by the candidate in their application form, which will be sent by ordinary post. PRE-EXAMINATION TRAINING It is proposed to impart Pre-examination training to a limited number of candidates belonging to the SC/ST/ Ex-Servicesmen/Minority communities at Chennai, Lucknow, Guwahati, Mumbai, Patna, Kolkata, New Delhi, Bhubaneshwar. Eligible candidates who wish to avail of the training should express their willingness in the application form. All necessary expenses for attending the training will have to be borne by the candidates. 13.
