National Guard Jordan Suzuki rider Roger Hayden continued to run at the front in the AMA Pro Racing National Guard Superbike series second round of competition. Roger fought valiantly for the podium in both races ultimately bringing home two fourth-place results in Saturdays and Sundays 20-lap races at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. Hayden started the weekend strong by qualifying on the front row and took advantage of his grid position by getting two good starts on the National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R1000. In Saturdays race, he battled heatedly for the final podium spot with Georgia native Josh Herrin for nearly 20 laps finishing in fourth. Likewise, Sundays race saw Hayden charging hard in fourth position and aggressively scrapping for third. Roger made a calculated pass attempt on the brakes in turn 10 on the penultimate lap, but had to settle for fourth once again. Haydens consistency added valuable championship points where he sits solidly in third place heading into the next round at Infineon Raceway. Teammate Ben Bostroms difficulties continued from Daytona into the second round at Road Atlanta. Ben started the weekend with a good qualifying effort placing him in the middle of the second row. He got a good start on Saturday and gave 100% effort finishing a respectable 8th. Bostrom went down early in Sundays race and had to retire the motorcycle for the day for a 19th place result.
Hayden Comments: Two fourths is a little disappointing after being on the podium twice at Daytona. At the same time, we made a run for the podium, we finished both races; and we learned some stuff. said Hayden. Although fourth place isnt where we want to be, I feel like Im riding good and the National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R 1000 is working great. Hopefully we can move on to Infineon and get back on the podium. Bostrom Comments: It was a really tough weekend, said Bostrom. The Jordan Suzuki GSX-R 1000 is a lot better than Ive shown at the first few races. Ive crashed out of three of four races and thats unheard of. I usually dont crash all year, so I am not doing the bike any favors. I got eighth on Saturday, but its not where I want to be. Im definitely looking forward to racing at Infineon: I grew up in that area, I like the track; and I think our bike will be racing for first-place there. Alexander Comments: "Overall this weekend was not what I hoped for. My crew Barry, Mike, and Tim all worked hard to give me a great bike. I felt like we finally got the National Guard Fairhills Group Celtic Racing GSX-R 600 dialed in for Sunday, but got the short end of the stick after a bad start. Hopefully everything checks out (with my shoulder) and we will be at Infineon.
Mauhar Technical Comments: We continue to work endlessly on the development of our National Guard Jordan Suzuki GSX-R 1000s. We had a great test at Homestead-Miami Speedway between Daytona and Road Atlanta. Ben and Roger finished the official AMA Pro Racing timed test with the fastest two lap times over the two day event, so we know we are capable of winning races. Unfortunately, the great test results didnt seem to translate into success at Road Atlanta. Although Roger had consistent speed throughout the weekend, he had difficulty matching the leaders pace in qualifying and both races while Ben continued his struggles from Daytona. We stay on the grind, so we will go back to the shop and analyze the data in detail to see if we can define some improvement opportunities for the next race at Infineon. Michael Jordan Motorsports heads to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California on May 4th through May 6th for the third round of the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Series.
