(VVIP duties) (PRIME MINISTER's AIRCRAFT) HELICOPTERS 3 UH-1H (VVIP duties) (2 UH-1H have been grounded) 2 BELL 412 (VVIP duties) Note: Federal Govt. plans to buy 6 Russian Mi-17 helicopters to replace the 3 UH-1H & 2 BELL 412, because due to the U.S embargo placed on Pakistan in 1998, there is a severe shortage of spare parts for these helicopters, and the situation is so bad that 2 UH-1H have been cannibalized for their parts to ensure the last UH-1H flies. The condition of the 2 BELL 412 is also unsatisfactory, particularly one of them needs a lot of repair. In view of the cost of repair, the Federal Government is considering buying new choppers. Of the 6 Mi-17 helicopters, 4 will be used for operational purposes & 2 will be used for VVIP duties. Mi-17 helicopters cost $ 2.5 million each, and Pakistan plans to spend $ 20 million for the acquisition of these 6 Mi-17 helicopters.
