Hello sir, what is your full name? My full name is Gino Morelli. And what is your age? I am 35 years old. Where were you born? I was born in Vlaardingen. When did you finish school? That was about 8 years ago, so it was somewhere in 2003/2004. Did you become a teacher right after that? Yes I started giving lessons immediately after that so that was around 2004/2005. Because you teach two lessons at the Einstein Lyceum we wanted to ask you what you like best: biology or art design. My answer to that is definitely art and design. This may sound like a weird question but, do you have a girlfriend at the moment? That is not a weird question at all, and to be honest I have a girlfriend at the moment.
Do you have any hobbies, if so what are they? At first I like video editing a lot. I also paint and draw very much, I make music and I write too. What is your favorite sport? My favorite sport is mixed martial arts (mma) I like the way they fight in cages and can do almost everything they want to win. What made you decide to become an art teacher? I wanted to stimulate creativity to younger people. I wanted them to know that you can make anything that comes up in your mind. That is the reason why I became an art/design teacher.
What do you like about art lessons? I love the creativity of the students. They all make nice pieces of their own art and that is what I like. I like the fact that no one hands in or creates a piece of art that is exactly the same as somebody elses. What do you like about drawing? I really relax when I am drawing, I release my tension and I have nothing on my head when I draw. It is like I am in another world at that moment. And what do you like about biology since you teach that subject as well? We are biology. Everything around us and on the planet is biology. I think that is so fascinating about that subject, you learn what you are made of.
What is your favorite part of biology? I like 2 things. Photosynthesis: I think this is very interesting because you learn how a plant created oxygen that we breathe. And respiration, about how oxygen turn into carbon dioxide in our lungs.
Were you excited for your first real lesson? Yes, of course I was. I was a little scared too. Have you ever had an embarrassing moment during one of your lessons? No, I dont think so. I am always very relaxed. Maybe I have embarrassed myself without realizing it. What is the strangest thing that ever happened during one of your lessons? I am sure that a lot of things have happened during my lessons but not anything special. Do you have a favorite class? No I dont, every class has his own thing. Some classes are very serious what I like, but some are crazy what I like even more. What kind of music do you like to listen to? I like to listen to rock music, the old fashion rock music. Do you own rock CDs? Yes I do but as I said before, only the classic ones. Dou you have a favorite painting? I dont have one In particular; I like a lot of paintings. I cant really say which one I like the most. Do you admire a certain painter? Yes, I like Picasso very much. And why Picasso? He did things that no one had ever done before. He created a complete new level of art. Do you have a lot of paintings of Picasso at home? I sure do, but I have more paintings that Ive drawn myself at home. I like to hang them up and then see them later. It gives kind of a proud feeling. Have you ever been to a famous art museum? Yes I have been to the Groningen museum once. It was beautiful. What did you liked the most about the museum? It wasnt really the inside but the outside. I thought that the building was very beautiful; of course the inside was nice as well. What do you like about art? As I said before, creating everything that comes into your mind. You can make everything with art, from tiny monsters to huge buildings. Without art our world would be boring. Do you think gravity is a form of art? Yes I really do, the people who make the paintings give colour to the wall. The wall would be very boring if they hadnt had any colour. Those gravity painters do it because they are bored but they create the most extraordinary things. Final question: what does art means to you? Everyone has another meaning for art, but for me art is an important part of my life. Without it I dont know what I would do.
