The document discusses color code standards for identifying different types of fluids, gases, oils and chemicals in pipelines and process systems. Color codes use ground colors and color bands of different sequences and combinations to distinguish one substance from another.

Water, air, industrial gases and some chemicals are identified by their ground color alone or ground color combined with one or two color bands. Substances like steam, ammonia, oxygen, nitrogen etc. have unique identifying color codes.

Light diesel fuel, high speed diesel, furnace oil, lubricating oil and transformer oil are identified by their ground light brown color combined with distinctive color bands like brilliant green, french blue etc.

PIPELINE COLOUR CODE INTRODUCTION Process pipelines need to be painted periodically for protection from external corrosion.

Different columns of pipelines are indicative of the fluids, Gases which are carried, in respective pipeline. The ground colour identifies the basic nature of the fluid carried and also distinguishes one fluid from another. Colour bands shall be superimposed on ground colour at different locations & to distinguish one fluid from another but belonging the same group. The colour bands shall be arranged in the sequence shown in table and sequence follows direction of flow Colour codes for General Services as per IS 2379 : 1990
