He was born in 1934 in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh and has lived in several cities in India after his parents' separation. Bond has won the Padma Shri award and is recognized for his literature, which includes numerous short stories, essays, and poems. Two of his stories were turned into movies, including A Flight of Pigeons which was adapted into the award-winning film Junoon.

    Ruskin Bond is amongst the most well known Indian writers in English, whose short stories have been adapted into movies. Basics on Ruskin Bond Ruskin Bond was born on 19th May 1934 in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, India. His father was Aubrey Alexander Bond. He served the RAF at the time of World War Two. He has two siblings, William and Ellen. After his parents separation he has lived in Shimla, Dehradun, Jamnagar and Mussoorie. He has won the Padma Shri (1999) in recognition for his work in literature. Ruskin Bonds Work Ruskin Bond has written numerous short stories like A Guardian Angel, The Man Who Was Kipling and Tiger Tiger Burning Bright; Essays like On the Road to Badrinath and Poems like Kites. Two of his stories were adapted into movies. The novella A Flight of Pigeons, was adapted into Junoon in 1978. It was directed by Shyam Benegal and starred Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. The Blue Umbrella was a story for children, brought to the screens by director Vishal Bharadwaj.
