Booting from Native VHD

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Open Disk Management Console in Windows 7. Right click on Disk Management and select Create VHD. Attach created VHD and initialize the disk. Format the drive and assign drive letter for it. Apply Windows 2008 image to the VHD file as follows using command prompt: ImageX /apply 2008 server wim file path 1 drive-letter for VHD 6. Run the following commands to add entries to the boot menu: a. Bcdedit /copy {current} /d description [GUID will be generated from this command; so copy it and save it to be used in the next commands]. b. Bcdedit /set GUID device vhd=[drive letter:]\path of VHD file c. Bcdedit /set GUID osdevice vhd=[drive letter:]\path of VHD file d. Bcdedit /set GUID detecthal on 7. Restart Windows 7 client and you will be prompted to select between Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008.
