MEANING:

CULTURE
Culture is a set of traditional beliefs and
values that are transmitted and shared in a
given society .
Characteristic
• Culture is perspective
• Culture is socially shared
• Culture facilities communication
• Culture is learned
• Culture is subjective
• Culture is enduring
• Culture is cumulative
• Culture is dynamic
Influence of culture on consumption.

- Culture prescribes the manner in which


people satisfy their desire.
- The eating habits of many people seem
exotic to Americans.
- The Chinese eat fish stomachs and bird’s nest
soup.
- The Iraqis eat dried, salted locusts as snakes
while drinking & the French eat snails.
Influence of culture on thinking processes

Thinking processes are also affected by


culture. When traveling overseas, it is
virtually impossible for a person to observe
foreign cultures without making reference,
perhaps unconsciously, back to personal
cultural values. This concept is known as self
reference criterion (SRC).
Influence of culture on communication
processes
• Low context cultures: actual words are use to
convey the main part of information in
communication what is important , than , is what
is said.( ex: Germany )

• High context cultures: the information is content


in the non verbal part an example message
sender’s value ,background position and
associations in the society .(ex: Japan , France)
Subculture
• A subculture is a distinct and identifiable
cultural group that has values in common with
the overall society but also has certain
characteristics that are unique to itself .
• Subculture are group of people within a
larger society .
• They also preserve their within the larger
culture of which they are a part.
