Mechanism of action
Isoprenaline exerts action by non selective beta 2 adrenergic antagonist causing cardiac
stimulant, bronchodilatation and peripheral vasodilatation. By acting on beta 1 adrenergic
receptor, it produces positive chronotrophic and inotrophic effects which increase cardiac
output, in AV block it shortens conduction time and refractory period of the AV block
and increases the heart rate and strength of the ventricular contractions. By its direct
action on beta 2 adrenergic receptor it relaxes bronchial smooth muscles and reduces
residual volume and increases the vital capacity and enhances the removal of secretion.
