English 20 Descriptive Sentences:

“The greatest masterpiece in literature is only a dictionary out of order.” – Jean Cocteau

We have read some poems about babies – the first stage in the development of a human being. In these
poems, we have observed the power of words – the ability of a poet to convey feeling and emotion
though proper word usage. Words are the building blocks of language; when linked in the proper
manner, the communicate ideas.

Most things in life have positive and negative sides to them. Childhood is no different; there are
certainly joyous moments in childhood, but there are several other emotions that children feel as they
experience the world.

Below is a list of words, which describe some of those feelings. Choose ten (10) words and write a
descriptive sentence which will convey to the reader the essence of the emotion. (The word itself should
not appear in the sentence) Make sure to use numbers to identify which emotion you are conveying.

Consider the writing process – plan, write, revise, and edit accordingly. Since this assignment will be
evaluated, I expect a clean copy, free of spelling and grammatical errors.
