Classroom Management Plan

Conduct:

The behavior guidelines for our music students have been taken from the ISD Student
Code of Conduct Handbook. Specific guidelines pertaining to our organization will be
detailed in this music Code of Conduct Handbook.

Philosophical Statement:

My goal for the classroom is to create a safe environment for students. I plan to create an
environment where students feel free to express and demonstrate their art in music. To
help create a safe environment, I have created a set of procedures and expectations to
promote success and create a positive atmosphere. As a teacher I will provide students
with the opportunity to succeed by providing knowledge, achievable goals and ideal
images that will lead the students to success.

Room Arrangement:

The room will be equipped with chairs and stands for the student to use. Depending on
the class period, chairs and stands will be set out in concert band order. Students must
leave the room as they found it when they walked in. Cases must be put away in their
assigned lockers while the instrument is in use in a rehearsal or sectional. Backpacks
must be placed against the walls in sight. The walls will be equipped with ideal images,
resources and announcements for the week.

Rehearsal Guidelines and Behaviors:

No gum, food or drinks (with the exception of water with a lid/cap), are allowed in the
band hall.
Be ready and seated with your instrument, music, pencil and supplies before the tardy
bell rings.
Read the agenda on the board to be prepared with the required materials.
Leave your instrument case in your assigned locker during rehearsals, sectionals and
performances. MAKE SURE TO LOCK YOUR LOCKER.
Lock your valuables.
Place your backpack against the walls in sight.
Raise your hand when you have a question, concern or need help.
Show good rehearsal etiquette by refraining to talk while a director is talking or working
with a section/rehearsing a piece. Study your part or listen carefully to others as they
play.
Be very careful and respectful with all of the instruments as they are fragile and may
break easily.
Make sure to close the latches of the case when the instrument is in the case inside or
outside of the locker.

Improper behavior and language will not be tolerated and will be addressed.

Basic Classroom Rules:

Respect those who have authority.

Respect your classmates and their instrument/materials.
Bring all equipment to class everyday (instrument, music, books, pencil, etc.)
Take your instrument home to practice.
NO running or horseplay in the band hall, especially with an instrument in hand.
Find a director if there is an altercation between students in the band hall.
Play and use only the instrument that was assigned or belongs to you.
Be ready to play as soon as rehearsal/sectionals/private lessons begin.
Ask for permission to touch or move any school or director equipment. If permission has
been granted be sure to be very careful and return it to where it belongs.
Please refrain from using cell phones or mobile devices for personal texting, phone calls,
etc. (If there is an emergency let a director know)
Make an effort to learn and improve as a musician every day.

The use of alcohol or illegal drugs during band activities or rehearsals
Fighting during band activities
Lack of respect to students, band directors, instructors and or chaperones

Positive Behavior:

Positive behavior will be reinforced in many ways. It may result or contribute to students
searching and receiving an officer position in the band, if wanted. Students also become
an exemplary model to his or her peers. Students will have all of the time and attention
needed to achieve success. With the help of everyone we can refrain from taking serious
disciplinary action and focus on becoming a stronger band community.
