Staff Perceptions at
San Ysidro High School
All students can be successful here at
SYHS, we just have to continue to provide
them with the extra support and help
Adding more career pathways is beneficial
for our students
Students have challenges because they
lack basic skills

Our Students
Getting the extra help from my teachers and
counselors made me realize I need to put in the same
amount of effort they do so I can be successful
I wish I had time to come to tutoring, but I cant
before or after school
Its hard to keep up with classroom when I go to TJ
every weekend to visit my grandma
I want to go to college, but dont know how to apply
or what to do to get there

Our School
Mission: San Ysidro will prepare all students
to be college and career ready upon
graduation.

Areas of Strength
Having career pathways for our students adds
more opportunities for postsecondary options.
AP scores have been improving. What has been
done different?
Teachers and staff care about our students
success.

There are different options students have if they

have to make up credits.

All students have access to advanced classes if

they want to enroll in them.
Students are our one number priority!

Areas of Need
We need to assess why are there only 50% of
African Americans graduating?
How can we close the gap and have 100% of
Latinos(as) graduating high school?
How can we increase the number of students that
take the SAT/ACT and make sure they improve their
test scores?
What can we do to ensure our students are CSU/UC
eligible?
How can we challenge our students to taking AP
classes and AP exams?

Recommendations
We can develop ideas to promote students taking
more honors and Advancement Placement courses.
Bring alumni to present on their experiences taking
honors and AP courses and how it prepared them for
college.
Present in classrooms and inform students on the
college application process, what to look for in
college, different types of colleges and
understanding the cost of attendance.
Enrichment activities: Can everyone participate?
Are we giving sources to our students where they
can explore post-secondary options?
Intervention programs: What can we do and who will
be able to participate?

QUESTIONS

Remember, all educators can make a difference.
