MissionStatement
Thismissionstatementwasrevisedbythestudentsof20162017andwillcontinuetochangejustasthe
programchangesyearafteryear.

Themissionofthe[InsertHighSchoolNameHere]BandProgramistoexceltothehighest
possiblelevelsofmusicianship,performance,andcitizenship.Wewillholdourselvesandothers
accountabletoupholdthehighstandardsoftheprogramandbeencouragingandsupportivemembersof
ourcommunity.Weacceptourpersonalresponsibilitiesandwillhonorourcommitmentstotheprogram.
Wewillrespectthosearoundusbyabidingbytheprogrampoliciesaswellasourpersonalstandardsof
excellence.

EnsembleDescriptions

ConcertBand
Thisensembleisforprimarilyfirstyearstudents.Allfirstyearstudentsmustenrollintwo(2)semesters
ofConcertBandunlessotherarrangementshavebeenmadebythedirector.ConcertBandisa
nonauditiongroup,butstudentswillbeexpectedtoauditionforchairswithintheensemble.Rehearsals
areMondayFridayfrom10:05am11:00am.

SymphonicBand
SymphonicBandistheupperlevelnonauditionedensemble.Studentsarehighlyencouragedto
participateinSolo/Ensemble,butparticipationisnotrequired.

WindEnsemble
WindEnsembleistheupperlevelauditionedensemble.StudentsinWindEnsemblemayperforminboth
SymphonicBandandWindEnsembleiftheirschedulepermits.WindEnsemblestudentsareexpectedto
participateinSolo/Ensembleaswellasfestivalsthroughouttheyear.Studentsmayalsobeaskedto
participateinfullorchestraaswell.

AttendancePolicy

Studentsareexpectedtobepresentineveryrehearsalinordertoreceivefullcredit.Eachstudentis
allowedtwo(2)excusedabsences(seebelow)eachsemesterinwhichnocreditwillbelost.

Studentsareexpectedtoattend
everyconcertinitsentirety
toreceivecredit.Calltimeforevery
performanceisthesameforeachensemble.Studentsareexpectedtostayandwatchtheotherensembles

westrivetofosterisoneofacceptance,understanding,andrespect.Eachandeverystudentregardlessof
race,ethnicity,religion,gender,sexualorientation,physicalability,orsocioeconomicstatusshouldfeel
welcomedasamemberofourcommunity.

Inordertoperformthehighestqualityofmusic,weallmustputinthenecessarywork.Eachstudentis
expectedtodohisorherparttomakesuretheensembleisperformingatitshighestpotential.

Studentswillbeaskedtolookpastthenotesonthepageandfullyimmersethemselvesinthemusic.
Thoroughmusicalunderstandingisoftheutmostimportancetoensuregrowthandexcellence.

VolunteerStudentAssistantPositions

Two(2)studentassistantswillbechosenperensemble.
Theseassistantsarevitalmembersoftheband
program.
StudentAssistantsareinchargeofcopyingmusic,distributingparts,organizingthemusic
library,andassistingthedirectorwithothertasks.

Studentassistantsaretocompletetheirtasksoutsideofrehearsaltime(ie.beforeschool,duringlunch,
duringafreeperiod,afterschool).Anystudentsinterestedinthispositionshouldseethedirector.
