Welcome Back!
Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a relaxing Spring Break and are now ready for our last couple of months together! This month we will be talking
about Spring and learning about some different
plants and how things grow. Plus, we are adding in a
Dr. Seuss week, just for fun!
We will also be learning about the colour BROWN
this month! We will be having BROWN days on ,
Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28 so
please wear or bring something of our colour to
help us celebrate.

With the weather becoming consistently nicer, we will be starting to

go outside more often! This will happen at the end of the day, so
we can avoid dressing multiple times. We will be going on the kindergarten park, closest to our door, as it will make picking children
up easier at the end of the day. With this though, please make sure
you send your child with proper outdoor wear! Our playgrounds
can be muddy and wet at sometimes, so rubber boots, mittens and
even slush pants may be a good idea. Please make
sure everything is labelled with your childs name as
well. Thanks!

Communication Corner
Lets sort it out
Sorting and organizing are great ways to develop your childs thinking and
language skills. Research tells us that children who can group items and
talk about grouping items are also organizing words and ideas in their
brains. Using the words and ideas in conversation and learning is easier
when the words and ideas are organized.
Try some of these activities to practice sorting it out.
Sort the laundry big/small; Moms/Dads/mine; red, blue, green;
Sort the recycling tins, paper/cardboard, refundables.
Help put the groceries away cereal in the cereal cupboard, vegetables in
the fridge drawer, tins in the pantry, treats on the top shelf (!)
Put pictures on the toy boxes/bins to help sort during clean up cars and
trucks in a box, Lego in a box, Barbies in a box, balls in a box, crayons in a
box.
Play sorting games with the toys a group of toys with wheels, a group
with bumps, a group with eyes (do Potato Head and Barbie go in the same
group? Could be!), a group of toys for the bath and a group of toys for
outside. Children often have interesting reasons for grouping items together. My rule is that if they can explain their reason and it makes sense
then carry on!
Some books about sorting include: Sort It Out by Barbara Mariconda and
The Button Box by Margarette Reid. Ask your local librarian for more suggestions she may show you books in the beginning math skills section.
Sorting is also a basic math skill!
There are also some nice apps for sorting Sort it out 1 and Sort it out 2
are free with in app purchases and SimpleSort is 0 .99. There are lots
more out there that I havent explored yet.
Have fun and keep on chatting!
