PPT Practice 02 Apply Advanced Formatting

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
You work for Cape Evergreen Estates, a development company building homes on a beautiful island
community not far from Seattle, Washington. The presentation describes the development and the types
of homes and lots available for sale. The development company is hosting an informational dinner for
prospective buyers, and has asked you to complete the presentation to be delivered that evening. You will
insert graphic objects into the presentationincluding a chart, SmartArt diagram, and text boxand you
will work with pictures, charts, and an audio clip.

GETTING STARTED

Download/open the following file from Blackboard Module 4, In Class folder


PPT03_startfile.pptx

Save it with the name as below and save in your hard drive space.
PPT03_YourLastName.pptx

Hint: If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save file dialog box, do not type it.
PowerPoint will add the file extension for you automatically.

To complete this Project, you will also need to download and save the following support files
from the Bb folder:

- tree.jpg

- sand.jpg

PROJECT STEPS
1.

On the title slide, delete the title placeholder with the text Cape Evergreen Estates, as well
as the default title placeholder that appears, and replace it with the same text formatted as
WordArt:
a. Use the Fill-Green, Accent 2, Outline-Accent 2 WordArt Style (3rd column, 1st
row in the WordArt gallery).
b. Change the size of the WordArt object to 72 pt.
c. Select the Align Middle alignment option.

On the title slide, insert a sound clip:


a. Use the keyword seagull in the Online Audio dialog box to search Office.com Clip
Art for a sound clip.
b. Insert the sound clip called Seagulls Waves. (Hint: If the Seagulls Waves clip
it not available, insert an alternate clip of your choosing.)
c. Preview the sound.
d. Modify the Audio Options so the sound starts automatically and plays across
slides.
e. Select the Hide During Show option.
f.

Use Smart Guides to position the sound object in the lower right corner of the
slide.

On Slide 2 (Overview), modify the picture:

a. Apply the Watercolor Sponge artistic effect.


b. Select the Brightness: +20% Contrast: 0% (Normal) color correction.
c. Change the width to 3.8.

On Slide 3 (Development Description), draw a sun shape, and then modify it:
a. Fill the shape with the image support_NP_P13_T3_P1a_sand.jpg, available
for download from the SAM website.
b. Change both the height and width of the shape to 2.
c. Use Smart Guides to position the shape in the lower right corner of the slide.

On Slide 4 (Home Designs), align the three rectangles containing photographs so that the
right edges are evenly aligned with the right edge of the middle rectangle (Condos).

On Slide 5 (Unit Sales), modify the column chart:


a. Edit the chart data by changing the number of Homes for sale from 15 to 20.
b. Apply Chart Style 11.

On Slide 6 (Unit Costs), remove the background from the picture so only the tree and the
ground remains as shown in Figure 1 below.

On Slide 7 (Current Sales Totals), create a Pie chart using the data shown in Figure 2
below. Apply Chart Style 8.

On Slide 8 (Cape Evergreen Views), insert a Bending Picture Caption SmartArt


diagram (4th column, 2nd row from the Picture category of the SmartArt menu), and then:
a. Insert the picture file support_NP_P13_T3_P1a_dock.jpg and the caption
View from the Dock in the first shape.
b. Insert the picture file support_NP_P13_T3_P1a_sunset.jpg and the caption
Sunset View in the second shape.
c. Add a new shape to the end of the SmartArt diagram.
d. Insert the picture file support_NP_P13_T3_P1a_tree.jpg and the caption
View out to Sea in the third shape.
e. Apply the Subtle Effect SmartArt style to the SmartArt diagram (3rd column in
the Best Match for Document section of the SmartArt Styles gallery).

10.

On Slide 9 (Activities), format the SmartArt graphic:


a. Apply the Cartoon SmartArt style to the SmartArt graphic.
b. Change the colors to Colorful - Accent Colors.
c. Add a new shape to the end of the SmartArt diagram that contains the text
Hiking and the sub-heading Miles of forest trails.

11.

On Slide 9, animate the SmartArt graphic:


a. Select the Wheel Entrance effect.
b. Change the sequence so that shapes appear One by one.

12.

On Slide 10 (Contact), create a text box, then:


a. Insert the text 206-555-1200.
b. Change the font size of the text to 32 pt.
c. Change the color to Lime, Accent 1, Darker 25%.
d. Resize the text box so that the phone number fits on one line.
e. Position the text box in the lower right area of the slide.

Your presentation should look like the Final Figure below. Save your changes, close the presentation, and
exit PowerPoint.
