1. What is your organization's mission or purpose?

The mission of Turning Point Domestic violence Services is to work towards the prevention and
elimination of dating & domestic violence.
2. What social problem does this organization help eradicate?
Turning Point focuses on the preventing future violence, while also working to help those who
are in immediate danger.
Our ultimate goal is to eradicate interpersonal violence within the communities we serve and
beyond.
3. What do you think is the most important service of your organization?
I believe we have two incredibly important services. Intervention & prevention. Turning Point is
not only working to educate thousands of youth each year through prevention education, but also provides
24/7 Emergency services for victims in life threatening situations. Emergency crisis services help save
lives, and assist families with incredible needs which are why we consider it to be so important. At the
same time, I believe education and prevention are crucial to getting in front of the problem which is why
this aspect of our services is so crucial.
4. What project(s) or service(s) can students Ivy Tech create or help with for your organization?
Turning Point is always looking for responsible, dedicated individuals to assist with numerous
volunteer needs. Each year we look for volunteers to help with the Annual Dance Marathon, Girlfriend
Bicycle Ride, and October Awareness Events. Adult volunteers are also always needed at the Emergency
Shelter to help with weekly needs such as babysitting, cleaning, maintenance, etc.
5. What information do you want your community to know about your organization?
Turning Point is a 24hour/7day a week agency. If you or someone you know is in need of services
you can reach us 24/7/365 days a year. We serve adult men, women, and their dependent children. Other
important facts we would like for everyone to know is that all Turning Point services are free and
confidential.
6. Ask any other questions you would like to ask.

POST SERVICE ASSESSMENT

1. My attitude towards service learning did not change after I did my hours. I have a servant
heart and I love helping people and working with all kinds of people. Everyone has a
story and some are better than others so when I go volunteer places I love hearing other
peoples stories. It confirmed my attitude that I love to help serve people who are in need
or less fortunate. I also love working with children because they might not get the
attention and love at home so being a smiling and safe face for them to come to school
too is always heart warming to know you are making a difference in someones life.
2. My service organization is important because I help provide Columbus Christian with an
advance P.E. class for the high school kids that are super athletic and play sports but
would like extra training with workouts and weight lifting. I was the volunteer teacher for
their Advanced P.E. class. I would only suggest they get some new equipment to help
make more options for the class.
3. The best experience during my service learning project was being a mentor to kids and
seeing these athletes get stronger in their sports field. The worst part was the lack of
certain equipment made it difficult to do some things that would have benefited the
students. I would ask before what they had or did not have so I could get more prepared
and brings things that they did not have.
