It also serves as a chemical intermediate to make 1,4-Hexadiene, Sulfolane and Chloropropene. 1,3-Butadiene is a colorless, flammable gas with a hydrocarbon odor that exists as a liquid when cooled below its boiling point of 269 kelvin and as a solid when cooled below its melting point of 164 kelvin.
