Cordillera Administrative Region 15 January 2015 DOLE to lead Araw ng Kasambahay in Baguio The Department of Labor and Employment(DOLE) leads preparation for the Araw ng Kasambahay celebration set on February 6 at the Department of Interior and local Government regional office here. DOLE Cordillera Batas Kasambahay focal person Patrick Rillorta said they aim to treat around 50 household helpers in the Baguio Benguet area. Aside from fun games and activities for the participants, there will be free medical and dental services in partnership with the Rotary Club Summer Capital, Dental Association of the Philippines Baguio chapter and Medical Association of the Philippines Cordillera chapter. There will also be mini forums and orientation on the regional wage order that governs household or domestic workers salar y as well as on related programs and services of the Social Security Service, Philhealth, PAGIBIG and Employees Compensation Commission, Rillorta said. Free health and wellness services are being worked out with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority. Republic Act 10361 or the Batas Kasambahay signed by President Benigno Aquino III on January 18, 2013 institutes policies for the protection and welfare of domestic workers that include general household help, yaya, cook, gardener, laundry person. A landmark piece of labor and social legislation that recognizes for the first time domestic workers as similar to those in the formal sector, it also institutionalizes the Araw ng Kasambahay. In line with the celebration, the Technical Working Group composed by agencies, and the City Public Employment Service Office will conduct continuing information, education and communication activities on the Batas Kasambahay for the whole month of January.
