Suzlon Energy is a global wind power products and Services Company based in India. Conceived in 1995 with
just 20 people, Suzlon is now a leading wind power company with presence in 21 countries and employs more
than 14,000 people. In terms of market share, the company is the largest wind turbine manufacturer in Asia
(and the 5th largest worldwide). With headquarters in Pune, it has several manufacturing sites in India
including Pondicherry, Daman, Bhuj and Padubidri (Mangalore) as well as in mainland China, Germany and
Belgium. Suzlon is a vertically integrated wind power company. The company manufactures blades,
generators, panels, and towers in-house, as well as gearboxes through its partial ownership of Hansen
Transmissions and state-of-the-art large or offshore turbines through its subsidiary REpower. Suzlon is a
multinational company with offices, R&D and technology centers, manufacturing facilities and service support
centers spread across the globe. Suzlon has seen consistent and undisputed growth and is now the world's third
largest wind power group.

Suzlon plant in Padubidri, Mangalore is the world’s largest wind mill blade manufacturing unit employing
above 1200 employees who work in 3 shifts in order to fulfill the growing demands of the market. The unit is a
labour intensive and employs a majority of technicians forming the shop floor workers which forms 80 percent
of total work force (900 workers) having a qualification of ITI or equivalent with 2 years of experience
(welding, fitting, etc.). The company on employment provides training according to its need in different
process which is supervised by Engineers and they direct the workers to carry out the specified job.

The unit at Padubidri faces many challenges in managing its human resource that is unavailability of skilled
workforce, Abseentism, employee discipline, productivity of employees, job-satisfaction etc. You are
appointed as a HR manager and are required to design a REWARDS & RECOGNITION scheme to motivate
the existing employees in the shop floor (technicians) and attract prospective workers to the organization. Your
scheme has to be innovative, realistic, and applicable and must not attract a huge cost for the HR department.
