Productiion of Phenol Formaldehyde

Production of Acrylic Fiber

Due to presence of chlorine the fiber is less inflammable; it can substitute natural wool.

Production of Polyester ribbon

Instead of terephthalate, terephthalic acid (TPA) can directly react with ethylene
oxide to yield bis terephthalate.

Bis terephthalate is polymerized at 270-300 C under low pressure using Ziegler

catalyst; easy purification of Bis terephthalate ; relatively impure TPA can be used.

Melt Flow Index: It is the weight in gram of the materials extruded in 10 minutes
through a standard die at a specified pressure at 190 +0.5 C. (Unit ; g/10 minute)

Nylon 6,6 (molecular weight : 15000-20000) can be produced by

reacting hexamethylene diamine with adipic acid (starting material)

Adipic acid from Cyclohexane:

Catalyst : cobalt naphthenate, 140-165 C, 10-12 bar

Adiponitrile is produced by simultaneous ammoniation of adipic acid followed

by dehydration using MoO3/WO3 catalyst at 250 C. Adiponitrile is then
hydrogenated using Ni/Co catalyst at 80-100 C under H2 pressure of 50-100
bar to produce hexamethylene diamine.

hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid (equi-molar mixture) react to produce

polycondensed product AH salt.; mixed with acetic acid (stabilizer) and heated in
autoclave at 250 C , 15 bar , 6-8 h . Water separated by subsequent pressure
reduction, polyamide melt is obtained.
