Lesson Plan Test Paper
to fill in the blanks with the past simple or present perfect of the verbs in
brackets;
to circle the correct answer by making the difference between
present perfect simple and present perfect continuous primarily and to
avoid the distracters past tense simple or continuous, present tense
Subsidiary aims:
To make the difference between an action completed in the past and an on going
action
To make the difference between the simple and continuous aspects of the Present
Perfect Tense
To recognize the Conditional Type by the verb already provided and to fill in
correctly the other verb in the Clause
Class profile:
The students have practised the two tenses Past Tense and Present Perfect with their
respective aspects, both separately and in combination; therefore they would be able to
meet the aims successfully.
Analysis:
After correcting the papers, it seems that the students partly failed in meeting the aims.
Out of the three exercises the most numerous mistakes are with exercise one. Here, the
students proved to be quite unable to make the difference between Past Tense Simple and
Present Perfect Simple.
The students seemed to handle the second exercise better, they were able to choose the
correct answer most times. Only few, though, were able to make the difference between
have seen and have been seeing.
The third, and last, exercise was rather confusing for the students, in the sense that some
of them filled in the blanks with Past Tense or Present Perfect instead of the tenses related
to the Conditional Types.
The overall conclusion is that the students need more practice with the above mentioned
tenses and my main aim is to provide plenty of practice opportunities in order to make
sure that by the end of the semester the students will fully grasp the difference in meaning
and aspect of the Past Simple, Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous.
