TYPES OF CUTS
PARALLEL CUT
Cut holes are put perpendicular to the face
Or parallel to the working direction.
Ex.
Burn Cut
Cormorant Cut

ANGLED CUT
Cut holes are made at some angle to the axis
Of the working face.
Ex.
Wedge Cut
Pyramid Cut
Fan Cut
Drag Cut

PARALLEL HOLES VIS--VIS

ANGLED HOLES
The width of tunnel and size of drill with its mountings
limit the angle relative to the axis of tunnel at which the
holes can be drilled. There is no such problem in parallel
holes.
Accuracy of drilling: in some of angled cut patterns, pair
of holes drilled should meet as close as possible to
promote flash over. In practice it is difficult to achieve ,
thereby, less pull is resulted. Drilling parallel holes is
much more easier and accurate.
Angled Holes: Dependence of blasthole depth on the
width of working as holes require sloping(inclination).
Difficult to collar and drill holes accurately in the desired

TYPES OF HOLES

TYPES OF HOLES
Cut holes: These holes are fired first to created free face for the
shots of easers.
Since these holes first make the opening in the face, they are
prime responsible
for the depth of pull.
Easers: The shot holes of this group are placed in the tunnel
around the cut
holes in two or more rings depending on the cross - sectional area.
These holes
ease the burden between the succeeding shot holes to enlarge
the excavation
area of the tunnel. Sometime Easer holes are also called stopping
holes or
enlarger holes or blast holes.

THE BURN CUT

A series of parallel holes are drilled closely
spaced at right
angles to the face. One hole or more at the centre
of the face
are uncharged. This is called the burn cut.
The uncharged holes are often of larger diameter
than the
charged holes and form zones of weakness that
assist the
adjacent charged holes in breaking out the ground.
Since all holes are at right angles to the face,
hole placement
