LAKE CITY One huge

quarter was really all they
needed.
Still, Lake City held on
down the stretch and beat a
pesky Northern Michigan
Christian team 62-54 in a
Highland Conference boys
basketball contest Thursday
night.
The win boosts the Trojans to 9-11 overall headed
into Class C district play
next week at McBain High
School.
This was a good win,
Lake City coach Brad Besko
said. It just gives us some
momentum to go into the
tournament with a win.
Thursdays game was tied
14-14 after the first quarter
before Lake City put together a big second quarter to
lead 34-22 at halftime.
Give NMC credit, they
took away some things we
wanted to do early and so we
had to adjust, Besko said.
We blitzed them in the second quarter and really continued that in the third quarter.
The Comets put a box-andone on Lake City big man
Lucas Marion but the Trojans had a couple of other
players step up and hit some
big shots.
That second quarter got
us this time, NMC coach
Dale Veddler said. Our
strategy was to stop Marion.
We held him to two points
in the first half but some
of their other guys really
stepped up and helped out.
That was the difference
in the game.
Lake City led 50-37 going
into the fourth quarter before NMC cut the deficit to
just five. The Comets had
the ball and a chance to cut
it to a one possession game
but couldnt capitalize.
We had a few turnovers
and they kept creeping back
in the game, Besko added.
I was proud we held on. We
took care of the ball and hit
