Schatz
President
On behalf of the more than 1.2 million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against
Government Waste (CCAGW), I want to thank you for your consistent dedication to fiscal conservatism.
The 111th Congress has passed a $787 billion economic stimulus package, a fiscal year 2009 Omnibus
Appropriations Act containing thousands of earmarks, and a $3.5 trillion budget resolution for fiscal year 2010.
Your steadfast opposition to these budget-busting pieces of legislation reaffirmed your long-standing status as a true
taxpayer hero.
Since you entered Congress you have been a champion of government reform and a tireless advocate for the
elimination of pork-barrel spending. You hold CCAGW’s sixth highest lifetime congressional rating, a testament to
your commitment to spending restraint.
As Congress moves forward with the fiscal year 2010 budget process, I am looking forward to working with you to
monitor Members’ earmark requests and votes on spending initiatives. Together, we can call attention to the
constant waste, mismanagement, and inefficiencies in the federal government, and hold elected officials accountable
for their actions.
Senator McCain, you have been a reliable confidant who has stood beside us at countless press conferences,
promoted our Congressional Pig Book year after year, and campaigned for fiscally responsible behavior in all
branches of government. On behalf of our members and all taxpayers, we are grateful for your leadership.
Sincerely,
