I Am Malala

I Am Malala is a book written by Malala Yousafzai, Yousafzai is a 17 year old Pakistani teenager
who is a Womens Rights Activist. She comes from a Taliban ruled town in North-West Pakistan.
One day when Yousafzai was traveling back from school to home, a Taliban gunman raided the
bus and took fire. The gunman shot Malala in the head and injured two of her other friends. The
reason why she was shot was because the Taliban did not like the fact that she was fighting for
Women Rights and they believed that the place for women is at home. Luckily the bullet did not
puncture her skull but rather was hit on the left side of her head and the bullet travelled down
her neck. She was flown to a hospital and had successful surgery. Today, she is continuing her
fight against the Taliban and other people who are against a womans education. In 2011, she
was awarded Pakistan's Youth Peace Prize and was also nominated for the International
Childrens Peace Prize. In 2013, the European Parliament awarded her the Sakharov Prize for
Freedom of Thought. That same year, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize but did not
win. In 2014, she was nominated again and this time she won the award along with Indian
Childrens Right Activist Kailash Satyarthi.
