Entrance Hymn #366 vv. 1-4 Holy God we Praise thy Name
Presider: Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our
hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may
perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the
house filled with smoke. And I said: "Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of
unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen
the King, the LORD of hosts!"
Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from
the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said:
"Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is
blotted out." Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and
who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I; send me!"

Song of the Three Young Men
Glory to you, Lord God of our fathers; *
you are worthy of praise; glory to you.
Glory to you for the radiance of your holy Name; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Glory to you in the splendor of your temple; *
on the throne of your majesty, glory to you.
Glory to you, seated between the Cherubim; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.
Glory to you, beholding the depths; *
in the high vault of heaven, glory to you.
Glory to you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; *
we will praise you and highly exalt you for ever.

Gradual Hymn #365 Come, Thou Almighty King
Presider: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. John 3:1-17
There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus
by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come
from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of
God." Jesus answered him, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of
God without being born from above." Nicodemus said to him, "How can anyone
be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother's
womb and be born?" Jesus answered, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the
kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the
flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I
said to you, 'You must be born from above.' The wind blows where it chooses,
and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where
it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus said to him,
"How can these things be?" Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel,
and yet you do not understand these things?
"Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have
seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly
things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly
things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from
heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the
wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him
may have eternal life.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
"Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in
order that the world might be saved through him."

Presider: We acclaim you, holy Lord, glorious in power. Your mighty works reveal your
wisdom and love. You formed us in your own image,
giving the whole world into our care, so that, in obedience to you,
our Creator, we might rule and serve all your creatures.
When our disobedience took us far from you,
you did not abandon us to the power of death.
In your mercy you came to our help, so that in seeking you
we might find you.
Again and again you called us into covenant with you,
and through the prophets you taught us to hope for salvation.
Father, you loved the world so much that in the fullness of time
you sent your only Son to be our Savior.
Incarnate by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
he lived as one of us, yet without sin.
To the poor he proclaimed the good news of salvation;
to prisoners, freedom; to the sorrowful, joy.
To fulfill your purpose he gave himself up to death;
and, rising from the grave, destroyed death,

♫ Musical Note ♫
"Holy, holy, holy!": Ever since their publication together in Hymns Ancient and Modern (1861),
the text and tune of today’s closing hymn have been virtually inseparable. The text, “Holy,
holy, holy Lord God Almighty,” written by Bishop Reginald Heber, was first published
posthumously in 1827, and appointed for Trinity Sunday. Later set to the tune composed by
John Bacchus Dykes, it appears in over 1,300 hymnals. The tune, Nicaea, is named after the
Council of Nicaea (A.D. 325) at which church leaders began to formulate the doctrine of the
Trinity to oppose the heresies of Arius. (from: www.hymnary.org)
