How she be
Haddix worked as a reporter before she began to write. By
meeting all different types of people and stories, she sometimes
created her own stories from her imagination for fun. Haddixs
father encouraged her to write fiction. Her husband also had a
big influence because he was an editor. Haddix didnt want her
husband to be her boss as a journalist so she decided to focus on
her fiction writing. They also began having a family and while
her children slept, she took that time to write her stories. She
was rejected many times but persevered until Running out of
Time was approved and her writing career started from then on.
She has written over 30 books so far.

The Missing series is about how famous children from history [were] stolen by futuristic time travelers
from their place in time and accidentally sent to the twenty-first century as babies. They are then
adopted by families in the twenty-first century.(Wikipedia) Jonah was one of those children and along
with his sister Katherine and friends Chip and Alex, theyre going to help get the children back where
they belong and make sure time wont be ruined. Her last book Redeemed will be released in the Fall.

How sh
Many of Haddixs books are considered curriculum
books in elementary and middle schools. On her
website, a lot of the books have discussion questions.
Thus, shes contributed to childrens literature because
children are able to elaborate their thoughts on certain
topics. Some of those topics might be difficult to
discuss but if theyre able to talk about them with their
parents, then perhaps theyll be able to open their
minds and the children will grow.

Book
Haddix creates a believable world in which government control has been
mandated, invading the personal rights of all citizens. The terrifying similarities
between this fictitious government and those running our countries today are
unsettling. The individual characterization of each voice is very well-written,
forcing the reader to stop to examine the motives of each person.
The reader will also be intrigued by the developing plot, its twists and turns and
the inevitable personal journey taken by Luke. The feeling that this story is not
a very distant future adds to the suspense and relevancy of Among the Hidden.
For children and young adults interested in creating a sustainable planet and
promoting equity among all individuals, this book will become a fast favorite.

THE END
I like the fact that kids are
willing to be imaginative and
go along with me when Im
telling strange tales.
Read a lot. Write a lot. Think
a lot. Enjoy what you read,
write and think about.
