After examining these different criteria, which city state was more superior, Sparta or
Athens? Give 3 reasons to justify your response.
Even though the Spartans had great military and quite a simple lifestyle, I believe
that the Athenians had a much more superior civilization. First of all, they had a
navy which opened the opportunity of two different types of warfare. In my
opinion the fact that they had mastered the sea and used it to their advantage
was extremely important. Another reason why I believe that the Athenians were
superior to the Spartans was because they had a more academic and
philosophical aspect while the spartans didnt enjoy art as much. The last reason
that I think they were superior was because they had a much more advanced
trading system than the Spartans, the Athenians depended on trade and had
better connections with other civilizations.
