    The Art of Learning


    We are very happy to recommend Mr Lance King and The Art of Learning course for your school. This
    year we incorporated the study-skills course into our examination preparation programme for years 11-13
    with much success an initiative we plan to repeat each year.
    Pupils explored and worked through a number of skills which they need in order to be successful at
    learning. In this process they were equipped to raise their self-esteem and confidence and learned the
    importance of being resilient. With multi-sensory teaching styles, classroom stories and a sense of humour
    Mr King aimed to reach pupils of all abilities. He created a day with a difference and we believe he made a
    difference.
    Remarkably, by drawing on his experience, Mr King was able to cover what other similar courses cover
    over several weeks and at a fraction of the price.
    A follow up workshop for staff and a separate workshop for parents complement this programme, thus
    ensuring that all parties in the pupil, parent and teacher partnership were aware of the strategies and the
    level of support which are required to make learning successful. This is where the strength of this
    programme lies. It allows for a whole school approach to learning which is clearly set out, well understood
    and, most importantly, easy and fun to use. The 100 odd parents who attended the evening presentation
    commented on the relevance of his message to life in Bermuda and bringing up Bermudian children.
    At Warwick Academy we believe that the impact of this course will stretch well beyond the learning of
    individual pupils. The Art of Learning techniques are now widely used in classes throughout the world and
    they particularly allow for a more consistent approach to differentiation, thus supporting staff in their
    planning and successful delivery of lessons.
    In addition we are planning to use Mr King in developing a whole school approach to gifted & talented
    pupils, professional development through appraisal and student evaluation techniques
