BESSIE COLEMAN

Bessie Colman or queen boss is her name and nickname.

Was first African-American Woman to receive a pilot license.

She was born on January 26, 1897 in Atlanta, Texas.

She entertained people because, she was a barnstormer.

She used her fame to influence people to fight against segregation


and racism.

She died April 30, 1926 to a plane crash.

I chose this because, she is an inspiration. Despite all of the


discrimination she faced, she followed her dreams.

Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was born on March 1822, in Maryland.
Harriet Tubman was important to African-Americans because, she discovered a way
for slaves to escape there slave owners. Also she was an abolitionist, humanitarian,
and was in the American Civil War as a Union spy.
but she died in Maryland in 1913.
Harriet Tubman was known for discovering the underground railroad which helped free
slaves. Harriet discovering the underground railroad is what makes her famous today.

MAYA ANGELOU

Marguerite Annie Johnson, Angelou was born in St. Louis, MO on April


4, 1982 and died on May 28, 2014.

She was very important to us because, she was an author, poet,


dancer, actress and singer. With her poems she helped motivate
people and made you think a little harder.

Also she won NAACP Image Awards in the outstanding literary work
(nonfiction) category, in 2005 and 2009.

The only places she has lived in was Stamps, Arkansas, St. Louis, Mo,
and San Francisco, California.

The reason I picked this person was because she was a great influence
in writing.

HUEY P. NEWTON
Huey P. Newton was born in Monroe, Louisiana on February
17,142.
He was very important to our history he, was the leader of
the black panthers which was an African-American political
urban activist group which begun in 1942.
Unfortunately she died in Oakland, California on August
22, 1989 at the age of 47.
The reason that I picked him was because he was the
leader from a big part of our history even if it is more of
the negative side of our history.
