modern
society and Hopi teachings that have
been established since time immemorial. Today, this
generation is so caught up in keeping up with the
ever changing western world that they forget where
their roots started from. Living the Tradition is an
effort to reach out to these future young leaders and
celebrate their heritage through Hopi dance
celebration and song. Participants of all ages
performed the Hopi Butterfly Dance for their
community instilling blessings of joyous life,
plentiful rains, and bountiful harvest of Hopi
produce. Songs were enjoyed by all, making
spectators feel the spirit of the dancers as they tapped
their feet to the rhythm of the deep tones of the drum
and hummed the tune and sang the words of Hopi
prayer from the songs. As the performances came to
a close, I was asked to take the youth to another
village event so that the feelings of happiness and
friendship could be felt by all across the reservation.
With the immense help of local young leaders and
community youth, Living the Tradition was a
success in which all of mankind and life benefited.

ready to celebrate life and successful harvest.
For that we appreciate and thank you! There will
