Research Question: What affect does ocean pollution have on marine life?
Working Thesis Statement: Ocean pollution has a negative effect on marine life.
Refined Thesis Statement: Ocean pollution is causing negative effects on the marine life and
environment by killing off different species.
Canada, Newswire. "International Scientist Dr. Peter Ross to lead new Ocean Pollution Science
Program at Vancouver Aquarium." Canada Newswire 18 Feb. 2014: Points of View
Reference Center. Web. 10 Oct. 2014.
This article from Newswire Canada is helpful because it talks about Canadas Dr. Peter S.
Ross, a world expert in the field of ocean pollution. It talks about all the threats, as in the kinds
of pollution such as, plastics, climate change, and industrial pollution. Also it is reliable because
Dr. Ross is the only marine mammal toxicologist in Canada. In Canada the Ocean Pollution
Science Program is how some of the aquariums in Canada add different research programs on to
the list of things they do to help the environment and ecosystems. This article from Newswire
Canada is relevant to my paper because it will help explain how the marine life is effected by
ocean pollution and explains it.

Day, Trevor. "Chapter 9." Oceans. New York, NY: Facts On File, 1999. 199-215. Print.
Trevor Days book talks about all of the different types of pollutions and harmful things
going into the ocean in this chapter. As well as the book as a whole it talks about everything in
oceans you could imagine, from the structure of an ocean to all the fish in the oceans. This
chapter talks about how sunken ships and everyday life is polluting the ocean with oils, human
sewage, heavy metals, and artificial chemicals. Day talks a lot about sunken ships and how they
pollute the water. This article will help my research by explaining the environmental damage
from pollution.

Sielen, Alan B. "The Devolution Of The Seas." Foreign Affairs 92.6 (2013): 124. Points of View
Reference Center. Web. 9 Oct. 2014.
Alan B. Sielens article about the ocean pollution and how it is destroying Earth. This
article also talks about how we humans have over fished the oceans and soon enough were going
start killing off to many species. Alans article looks at the oceans ecosystems, threats of ocean
life, dead zones, and etc. Sielen is a reliable source because he is senior fellow for International
Environmental Policy at the Center for Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at the Scripps
Institution of Oceanography. This article is relevant to my writing by telling me how the ocean
pollution is effecting the marine life and also how humans harm the ocean life in other ways.
