All reference to Sodium Hypochlorite as approved by FDA is as one of the ingredients

21 CFR 173.315 (Sodium Hypochloritel) FDA approval that it may be used in the
washing or assist in the lye peeling of Fruits and Vegetables
21 CFR 176.170 FDA approval for Sodium Hypochlorite Safely used as components of
the uncoated or coated food contact surface of paper and paperboard intended for use in
producing, manufacturing packaging, processing, preparing, treating, packing,
transporting or holding aqueous and fatty foods. For use only as polymetzation catalyst
21 CFR 177.2800 FDA approval for Sodium Hypochlorite For wash of textiles that may

21 CFR 178.1010 FDA approval for Sodium Hypochlorite and Hypochlorous acid Item
(37) permits Sodium Hypochlorite (CAS No. 7681-64-7) may be added as optional
ingredient to sanitizing solution. In addition to use on food-processing equipment and
utensils, this solution may be used on food contact surfaces in public eating places. Item
(44) Hypochlorous acid plus iodine to produce 21.5 % nitric acid can be used on foodprocessing equipment and utensils. Later update by EPA for use up to 200ppm of
straight Hypochlorous Acid under 40 CFR 180.940
40 CFR 180.940 Tolerance exemptions for active and inert ingredients for use in
Antimicrobial formulations (Food-contact surface sanitizing solutions).
Residues of the following chemical substances are exempted from the requirement of a
tolerance when used in accordance with good manufacturing practice as ingredients in
an Antimicrobial pesticide formulation, provided that the substance is applied on a semipermanent or permanent food-contact surface (other than being applied on food
packaging) with adequate draining before contact with food.
. (a) The following chemical substances when used as ingredients in an Antimicrobial
pesticide formulation may be applied to: Food-contact surfaces in public eating
places, dairy-processing equipment, and food- processing equipment and
utensils.
. (b) The following chemical substances when used as ingredients in an Antimicrobial
pesticide formulation may be applied to: Dairy processing equipment, and foodprocessing equipment and utensils.
(c) The following chemical substances when used as ingredients in an Antimicrobial
pesticide formulation may be applied to: Food-processing equipment and utensils.
(d) 180.940 also permits on site generator of electronically produced Hypochlorous Acid
for on site use and can not be repackage or resold to anyone else according to the EPA

generation of Hypochlorous Acid
Important facts to remember:
On-Site Generation exemption as per EPA 40 CFR 180.940. Only ingredients are NACI
and H2O (not regulated) PR 2000 Exemptions
On-Site generation allowed under 40 CFR 152.500 EPA Pesticide Generation Mfg

Chlorine is classified as a hazardous material by the US Occupational Health & Safety
Administration (OSHA defined by 29 CFR 1910.1200). However, according to COSHH Directive
99/45/EC, Ecolox disinfectant or Cleaner in concentrated form cannot be considered hazardous.
