Objectives: Students will be able to 1. Define line in regards to art and identify its characteristics. 2. Differentiate between shape and form. 3. Describe how line, shapes and forms are used in art. Aim: How are the elements line and shape used in art? What is a line? A line is a basic element of art, referring to a continuous mark, made on a surface, by a moving point.
What are the different properties that a line can possess? Lines can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, straight or curved, thick or thin.
Aim: How are the elements line and shape used in art? LINE PROPERTIES Horizontal lines move from west to east and provides a sense of space. Vertical lines move from North to South and provide a sense of height. Diagonal lines is a straight line that moves in an angle it can also convey a feeling of movement and can also indicate depth. Curved line tend to resemble that of the human body and often have a pleasing, sensual quality and a softening effect on an art piece.
Aim: How are the elements line and shape used in art? What is a shape? The General outline of something is a shape. Shapes have two dimensions height and widthand are usually defined by lines. If you look around you, you will notice that almost everything we see is made up of a Shape or combination of Shapes. Some of the more common ones we have given names to, i.e.: circle, square and rectangle. Others are so unique we call them abstract shapes.
What are the three categories of shape? The three categories of shapes are: 1. Geometric 2. Abstract 3. Organic
Aim: How are the elements line and shape used in art? 1. Abstract shapes are shapes that have an outline that is not necessarily defined or concrete. 2. Geometric shapes are those that are based on mathematics 3. Organic shapes are based on nature.
Aim: How are the elements line and shape used in art? What is the difference between 2D and 3D? The difference between 2D and 3D is 2D is 'flat', using the X & Y and 3D ads the third dimension which includes depth.
DID YOU NOW? 3D objects are known as forms. They can be characterized the same as shapes in respect to abstract, geometric and organic.
