Welcome to 7
th
grade Science!!
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Seventh grade science primarily focuses on Life Science.
During this course students will focus on cells, functions of organelles, human body
systems, genetics, plants, and ecosystems.
TEXTBOOK: Science Grade 7 by McGraw Hill Education and its workbook. Textbooks
are property of HISD. Textbooks may not be used on a daily basis.
INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS (INB): You will be required to keep a journal for this class,
and it must not be used for other classes. Your notebook will remain in class, unless
given permission by the teacher. A composition notebook is strongly recommended. It
is up to the student to keep up their INBs. Notebooks must be neatly organized and will
be graded regularly.
CLASS PARTICIPATION: You are expected to attend each class and YOU ARE
RESPONSIBLE for any material missed due to absence or tardiness. If you are absent
for any reason, you can find out what we did in class (or what we are going to do) by
sending an e-mail to me, by calling any of your classmates, or by seeing me at the
school as soon as you return. You should take the missing notes from one of your
classmates and copy it into your journal and make up any missed tests, quizzes, or
homework right away. Laboratory activities are an important part of this science class.
Failure to follow directions or comply with the safety guidelines will result in
immediate removal from the lab, and a zero for the assignment.
GRADING: You will be informed about test days in advance; however, you may take pop
quizzes without any prior notification. Homework will be assigned once a week. To
receive full credit you must have your completed assignment with you on the due date.
The final grade will be determined by your performance on the following percentages:
Daily work: 40%
Exams/Quizzes: 30%
Projects: 20%
Homework: 10%
Any assignment turned in late on the due date will result in a deduction of 10
points. Additional points may also be deducted for incorrect answers, missing
name, incomplete, etc.
Any assignment turned in after the due date will result in an automatic deduction
of 10 points. Additional points may also be deducted for incorrect answers, missing
name, incomplete, etc. If it is not received by the third day of the original due date, it
will be coded as missing.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: You must take care of all
personal needs before coming to class, which includes going to the restroom, getting
water, etc. You must be prepared to work when the bell rings, including being in your
seat, quiet, and attentive. You are to participate in class activities until dismissed by
the teacher, including taking notes, being on task, following directions, and not moving
around the classroom without permission. You must respect the rights and property of
others. Refrain from verbal and physical abuse, vandalism, disrupting the learning of
other students, talking during the class without teacher's permission, and taking
property of others.
School is a learning environment. Any kind of disruptive or inappropriate behavior will
not be tolerated; there will be absolutely no exceptions!! You are responsible for your
own actions and reactions. If others violate the rules, then it can't be an excuse for you
to do the same action.
